There's some historical thing I'm missing or it's from a manga source from a decade ago and the Girls und Panzer finale thing isn't actually making an incredibly obvious European refugee metaphor with the tan girl transfer student and the rich blonde that had been there, right? Either way, drat GuP is good. Not getting a proper Panzer Vor though is unacceptable and cannot happen again.

Sort of? The idea seemed to be that all the escalator students were French and all the transfers were Japanese. ...Despite the fact that in-universe all the schools are actually Japanese and just act like their countries? Since they made a point of Katyusha not actually knowing Russian and Darjeeling not actually having been to the UK? Maybe all the escalator Freedom students just dye their hair???

i just took the french school as a rose of versailles thing, especially with the commander girl being named Marie and the two subcommanders being kinda handsome when they put their full uniforms on. or lesmis. i think tan girl is just tan edit: also klara is definitely russian. nonna's birthplace is listed as hokkaido. hokkaido has a lot of historical and modern ties to Russia so its possible shes of russian/Japanese mixed descent, which'd fit with her being so much taller than everyone else and knowing russian. regardless shes definitely not foreign like klara is. Man, spring's got a lot more options. I only really had 3 shows to watch this winter. Hype: Golden Kamuy (they better get the faces right) Lupin 3, Pt. V Safe: BNH3 Wotakoi (Been waiting for this to come out since finding it in the Zolgin thread (come back zolgin)) Chance: Hisone To Maso-Tan Caligula Megablox Risk: Magical Girl Boy (ore) 99% sure I'm just going to end up watching GK and Wotakoi week to week and just catch up on the rest as they air past the second week though.

Rose, itself is set around the French Revolution so, like a cake, it's a layered reference. Also remember that the whole rivalry as shown was a ruse.

I've resumed watching Full Metal Panic. In Episode 14, I was disappointed when Chidori teamed up with that rear end in a top hat. I'm not sure what she was trying to accomplish by that. Episode 15 introduces Sosuke's homeland of Helmajistan. OK, the Khanka Autonomous Region was one thing, but Helmajistan is just a stupid name. Apparently the LNs used actual countries (Afghanistan and North Korea); I guess the anime people felt it would be in bad taste, especially since the US invasion of Afghanistan began shortly before the anime came out. Edit: Wow, there are a lot of stupid people in Mithril. The ones who aren't are basically just the old man, Tessa, Grace, and sometimes Sosuke. there was definitely a no pantyshots rule imposed by the director on GuP, because there's a couple of gags in some of the side material about that. Iunno if they kept trying to constantly sneak them in, though, that might just be a rumor.
