There's a bunch of other similar posts on there. It's pretty awful that these people are suffering like this and not receiving any help. Also it's sort of weird that as a society we condemn the selfishness of suicide as a means to escape from misery but celebrate the selfishness of satisfying greed through the exploitation and immiseration of others. I guess that's sort of a facile observation though since

At least 4 people I know at uni are camming now to supplement their inconsistent incomes. The commodification of sex and the body is pretty well accepted I think, and it makes sense that people will take advantage of that if they can, considering the state of the economy for young people.

I think it's mainly a supplementary thing, like a fiver or two here and there. If you're going to be jerking off anyway why not get paid for it? Also it helps if you appeal to people's fetishes, and some fetishes are pretty benign. Like slowly taking off stockings, or filming yourself eating naked, or flossing. Apparently you can make money just by livestreaming yourself doing homework nude, so you can make money while doing things that you would be doing anyway. Ofc it helps to be good looking, athletic, and/or well endowed, but if the fetish is niche enough then it probably doesn't matter too much. I suppose you could build up a fan base by doing it regularly and get more income that way, but only one person who I knew did that, the others just did it a few times a week as they were eating dinner or if they felt like jerking it for a bunch of strangers. It helps to be an exhibitionist.

in all honesty US Democrats aren't appreciably different from european social democrats in their class composition, institutional support bases, ease with global empire, or capitulation to neoliberalism the electoral coalition of public sector workers, ethnic minorities, and liberal professionals repeats itself in other countries, dems just have weird origin story (hybrid party of southern racial-agrarian reactionaries, northern urban machine politics)

American politics just seem to be more inherently ad-hoc, and lack any kind of philosophical underpinnings. Maybe because our civic ideology is so firmly rooted in constitutional worship that we accept the precepts of our founding document as inherently true and work from there.

america in general has a very low level of political consciousness. democrat/republican and conservative/liberal are for many people more of an identity than an actual coherent political ideology (because they arent coherent political ideologies). even many american socialists I would say have fairly low levels of political consciousness generally and basically just use their ideology as an outsider identity to latch on to since the two prevailing political identity groups dont appeal to them for whatever reason.

I think the point is that ideological differences aren't genuine, because both parties are rooted in the same ideology. "Minority issues" and "religious conservatism," are both cynical vote-grabbing strategies for politics as sport - because the only interest that will always be served is Capital's. The qualitative difference between Republicans and Democrats is that they serve different sectors of the bourgeoisie.

Democrats deserve zero credit for bowing to pressures that had been built up from the ground for decades, because they've always been the ones standing in the way of progress alongside Republicans until they saw the polling advantages.

Because "minority issues" can literally be life and death for minority voters. Hardly a sport for them.

its pretty clear theyre referring to politicians since they say refer to them as "cynical vote-grabbing strategies" and voters would not be grabbing their own votes

It's obvious that police brutality is the defining social issue of the present day, and Democrats have moved zero inches on it because they think there's more electoral liability in being anti-cop. The best you can hope for is a local grassroots movement to elect somebody like Larry Krasner, with no support from the Democratic party at all - but they'll take the credit anyway if it's successful.
