I grew up in swampland North Carolina with >100 degree, 100% humidity summer days. I also spent time in the sandbox, seeing temps over 135 degrees. I respectfully disagree and say that spending time in a city that almost never saw temps over 90 degrees was amazing. I would much rather deal with a 40 degree day than a 100 degree day, or, hell, even a 90 degree day. It's easy to add more clothes. You can't take clothes off once you're down to your skin, though.

Great Lakes region weather may suck, but at least we know where our next glass of water or shower is coming from. Also major natural disasters (earthquake, flood, wildfire, hurricane, tornado, etc.) are practically unheard of. And most importantly, the beer scene is pretty great here.

One of my fondest memories of living in the the winter wasteland that is western NY was working on my Jeeps in the giant garage I had that also had a giant wood stove. I started out working with tons of layers and by the time the stove got going I was down to a T shirt, sweating my rear end off fixing rusted floor boards with road signs, good times

Got approved for the voluntary summer layoff at work. There's some caveats in the form of shifts where I'm required to be in to cover for the two people I'm a backup for. Looks like I'll only be able to collect unemployment during May. After tomorrow, I have to work 4 shifts in April, 1 in early May, 6 in mid to late June, and 6 in July. Layoff ends on Aug 2nd. I had figured that they'd do this, and that it'd gently caress me for collecting EI but I'm okay with that because with essentially most of April and May off I'm hoping to call HR before June to inform them I'm not returning or able to work those shifts (especially since once is my Bro's birthday and I'm not missing that). This is gonna be my Year of the Job, AI, it must be, it will be.

Dodge 545rfe auto trans. Low line pressure code, and it's slipping during shifts. 1)Filter change and fluid swap. 2)Dead pressure pump. 3)Rebuild required. Taking bets. Winner gets a flaccid dick pic.

I wonder if it's better to buy a reman or a full rebuild kit. Rockauto full rebuild is about $500cad, but I have no idea what labour is on that. I guess I'll call in the morning. It's cheaper for me to just pay for it to be done than miss work.

It's a really small world once you get out and live in it. The whole degrees of separation (or Kevin bacon) thing is very real. Living in southern California just ups the ante, because everyone is either from or lives there. If you don't live in a bubble you meet all kinds of people, and having the mindset of leaving yourself open to experience means you sometimes live weird poo poo.

The guy offered my roommate and I tickets and backstage passes, I had to work and couldn't go (I'd call in sick but military lol) but my roommate was off and would not go by himself. FB chat. I used FB 10 years ago to track down the woman I am now married to. We'd met briefly and I had her number but misplaced it and in a panic I tried FB and there she was. FB tells me we became friends 10 years ago today so that's a nice feature as I didn't realize this date had any relevance. Didn't start officially dating til August though.

Replaced the ignition switch today (had to do 2 relearns yesterday, and kept getting a solid Passlock light on the dash while driving). While digging in the trunk trying to find my Torx bits... Found a whole bunch of water, but only in the rear right corner. Spare tire well was dry, but water was pooled in the corner. It's right by the vent, so I guess maybe I baptised the trunk hitting some deep puddles yesterday? Stuff caught in that corner was kinda rusty (not the car sheetmetal, just a couple of random things that had fallen down in there), so it's obviously been going on awhile. I don't think it's a sunroof drain causing that; pretty sure that usually causes water to pool inside the car. No taillight gaskets to worry about either, so I'm at a loss. Maybe the grommet that the wiring for the right taillight passes through..
