No wait, Gunleon didn't get a new form, just more attacks. So it's actually not that uncommon.

But those new attacks involved it switching to a new form. It just didn't stay that way for the map sprite.

Considering that A: He got the full time for the last two stages, B: Z3.2 gives you GAI full time right from the get go, plus Ray, and C: It's Z3, we can either say he got the full form or just ignore it.

I will be a bit disappointed if Zelguard doesn't get an upgrade. Turning GranVang into an absolutely ridiculous super robot was my favorite part of V.

Honestly I don't give a crap if Zelguard gets a new physical form or not if it gets stat upgrades, multiple new attacks, and a rad new song at about the halfway point. It worked for Gunleon.

a storm is coming...

You know, I've realized something watching that video. It certainly has a lot of fancy visual effects but the actual attack choreography is rather bland. Like, compare it to Sirbine in BX. They have the same three attacks, but the BX attacks are CONSIDERABLY flashier despite the much lower graphical quality. Perhaps because of it? Plus that DK is just super rad and the hyper aura sword itself is much cooler. In X it's basically a long flashy buildup to a single 'projectile slash'. It all looks very pretty, but seems rather unstylish. And man let's not even talk about X's aura sword which is just two really basic sword slashes which lack any sort of real impact to them. While the BX version, while it probably relies too much on SPINS (a common trend in BX is that they add a frankly unnecessary amount of spinning to every unit they can get away with) still has that really cool cut in slash finishing things off.

I don't know if I'm explaining too well here, it's just something I've noticed I dislike about the newer 'mainline' SRW games. Due to the whole thing with REALLY FANCY HD GRAPHICS it feels like they spend a long time on making each frame look really fancy and not enough on making the overall animation look cool, certain special units aside (No one can complain about Nu Gundam's treatment in the PS3 generation).

Edit: Maaaaan the Emperor + Kaiser combo attack is really... Underwhelming...

I can hear you
If Zelguard is as good as Gunleon then I'll be happy. I mostly just prefer supers, but if not having to split work between two alternate upgrades means the main thing gets to be really good looking then that's fine too! Does make repeat playthroughs a tiny but less enticing though.

MX's ZZ Hyper Beam Saber has so much more weight and power to it than V's version too. Sometimes they nail it, sometimes they don't.

Anyone far enough into it to know how they're handling the Geass and Cross Ange units yet? Mostly curious about whether or not the c-listers like Todoh's sidekicks or Chris/Rosalie have been reduced to call-in attacks, if they've given any of the cross ange squaddies a new finisher besides the freeze bullets, etc.

X seems to be taking a whooooole lot of liberties, which is great because that's what makes SRW fun. It's super boring and lovely when all the plots are played straight instead of being shaken up.

Yeah, if that’s the future of main line SRW then I’m totally happy about that. That plus presumably leaving the Vita and it’s technical limitations behind someday soon means an at least decent future for SRW to me.

These are always a nice read and I'm glad to learn you didn't get as much vitriol as other translators for this series sometimes get.

I hope the same goes for Gideon, outside of the eternal jokes about delays, and that people don't tweet him with how angry they are that the game is ruined because Ankoku Daishogun is General Dark or whatever.

I'm surprised by how much X isn't introducing its new inclusions. Wataru is the main plot but both Nadia and G-Reco have popped in quite a ways into their runs. You'd think Buddy Complex would start at the top, being an isekai already, but I honestly expect it to show up with the main dudes through a couple major battles at this point.
