That one's especially funny because the Japanese voice director insisted it be pronounced that way.

one of the jp artbooks or something probably had his name romanized as crawd. when you tell people who have never spoken a word of english in their life to write down a name in english letters, things get freaking weird. the best example of this is the hunter x hunter artbooks: literally every name is romanized in the most insane way possible. my favorite being

name in romaji: クロロ=ルシルフル (Kuroro Rushiferu)

Official Translation: Chrollo Lucifer

name in the artbook: Quwrof Wrlccywrlfh

that vowel to consonant ratio :prepop:

Is Xenoblade Chronicles 2 worth giving a try if:

a) I bounced off the first Xenoblade Chronicles because I just really couldn't get a handle on the combat (probably my own fault but still), and

b) The character design aesthetics just repel me aggressively.

I'll put up with that if it's just a totally awesome game in every other regard

If the whole massive world thing wasn't enough to keep you into it, 2 isn't any better in that regard, and that's the whole redeeming quality in the midst of a bunch of very questionable decisions. Also,

I don’t particularly care. As if we are judging RPGs by questionable character designs then boy.

Can confirm, I spent three hours trying to farm Legendary Core Crystals on the most effective enemy drop rate in the game to get KOSMOS. I beat the game with 130 hours and didn't get them all, and that was before they added even more super-rare blades that the average player will never see.

I'd only ever recommend the game to people who think the first game is the pinnacle of JRPGs. I like Xenoblade X way more, but I also didnt like the first Xenoblade.

I definitely think part of it is a compulsion to "leave their mark" on a translation project as well. I know certain Treehouse translators have flat out said on twitter and interviews that's the reason why they themselves change names or jokes wholesale that don't need to be.

if you want to "leave your mark" on something then stick to translating anime porn

Same, XB2 combat hits a peak in the later-middle of the game when you hit the perfect level of difficulty where you need to be actively using topple and preparing to break orbs, but before that all battles can basically be won by doing nothing or is impossible just because your numbers aren't high enough. And endgame battles are nowhere near as fun as running high-end goof-level theorycrafting invincibility builds in XBX that require you to chain all your moves in very specific ways

Pretty sure it's not? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oKk0uUNryM It's not like there's full voice for the original game so I just assume they recorded the VA before the localized names were final

I really don't think it's that big a complaint. At least, not in the way you intend, considering most of the central cast are actually pretty decent designs all-round. It's only the Rare Blades that get pretty goddamn fetishy, and that's what happens when you give free-reign to a bunch of guest artists.

edit: oh and Pyra/Mythra.
