Are all Liberals only children who never learned to share? Or maybe they're all eldest children who go upset when they had to share?

Bartlett is the second most left wing person in the senate after Lee. Not to say his history isn't a bit weird but to say he's only in it for a seat is ridiculous. He was a left Democrat voted against the GST, never fit them well and has moved significantly leftwards since, he's also been a core member of the QLD Greens for many years now.

I think the post was politically stupid but I didn't realise the ALP had become so above reproach for its historic bad policy ideas. Giving penalty rates to FWC was always going to end up like this.

Hooooooly poo poo. This is going to be an ugly election. Things between Labor and the Libs already aren't good, but this is just going to destroy any possibility of good relationships between the two. I imagine a good number of Libs won't be happy about it either - more than a few of them don't like Guy, Labor is never going to do them another pairing again (at least in this Parliament), and it's over a stupid nothing Bill that a vast majority of people don't know or care about.

Pairing agreements are informal by nature so no. Pulling a fast one on Vic Labor seems a dangerous manoeuver, they're masters of political game playing and will find a way to punish the Liberals for this.

I disagree. It means we're in for like seven months of dirty politics and people trying to dredge up whatever poo poo they can. I mean, more than normal. It's gonna be a stressful time for anyone who works in politics.

I just don't get it. It's dumb, apart from anything else. It's a move you can only pull once, we're still seven months out from the election, and it's a Bill that has little public interest and is a move that will have, at best, minimal public support.

Edit: of course it's Bernie Finn. Of. loving. Course.

I can't see a way the LNP comes out of this looking good. First, the bill was (I think) about compensation for firefighters whose cancer was contracted in their line of duty. Secondly it's making a big song and dance of being religious and then, whoops soz nvm. Can't look good in a state where there are A LOT of Catholics.

It'll also backfire against them in the next parliament. If LNP win it'll be a hair thin majority, and this gives Labor licence to just say "nope gently caress you" when the LNP legit needs pairs. that'll make it difficult to pass all the legislation they might want to pass

also if they've got a one seat majority they better turn up every time because Labor will be more than happy to pass a motion of no confidence in the government to embarass them.

In theory they could use stuff like this to show how bad the LNP are, but they will probably barely bother and then the media will put out a bunch of stories about how the Apex Gang are taking over Victoria.

All this AB hate is just coz y'all can't handle a bit of revolution qld-style.

- LW was always going to get her seat back because number 2 was meant to be her little brother not AB

- BP is to earn his number 2 seat with stop adani/Galilee blockade

- AB was never going to stay in the Senate (because of the above points)

- AB campaigned in QLD during the federal election, LW campaigned in Vic. (Fun fact just to muddy the "waters" when goons ITT play pin-the-tree-tory-label-on-the-greenie)

- Qld Greens would never touch the LNP (unlike the aus greens) and the attack on ALP is to reinforce their "revolutionary credentials" (because in practise qgreens and qalp are basically the same thing, only difference is one wins seats). Qalp votes are going down and qgreens want to catch them, and AB mixes with the activist crowds who are all secret young labor members and he is trying to convert them.

LNP have an ideological hatred of professional firefighters. Because we’re heavily unionised. So the flip side of that is they love ARE VOLUNTEERS and are trying to secure votes in regional electorates by carrying on about how they love CFA HERO VOLUNTEERS and won’t KOWTOW TO UNION THUGS FROM THE CITY.

Should fire service reform and cancer legislation have been tied up together? Probably not. But there was no loving way in hell of getting fire service reforms through without tying it to presumptive cancer legislation for firefighters.

The logic of tying them together was indeed "they can't oppose this without looking bad, and if they do, we can use it". The mistake was thinking they remotely gave a gently caress about looking bad.

It drives me crazy. These loving Liberal MPs putting communities at risk so that volunteer firefighters can have their little hobby of driving around in a red truck.

Which wouldn’t be an issue if volunteers were able to meet the service delivery standards required of them in order to effectively protect their communities. But they can’t.

And so they oppose fire service reform because they don’t want their hobby taken away from them.

all ~50,000 CFA volunteers? I've tried to read up on this CFA/UFU thing but it still makes no sense to an outsider.

The CFA volunteers were certainly welcome relief when they came over to SA for the Pinery creek fire a few years ago, and their skill level wasn't an issue.
