Given demographics, that is extremely unlikely to happen. That the GOP managed to win at all was a stars-aligning goddamn miracle that required the worst, most hated Dem candidate in modern history. In 2024 or 2028, even that would not be enough.

The "if we don't nominate the perfect candidate then the nazi candidate will win when boring Dem is gone and we're hosed" is one of the stupidest takes this thread frequently regurgitates. The reality is, that the GOP is going to have an extremely difficult time ever coming close to winning another presidential election unless they shift far to the left of where they are at now.

I disagree. Obviously Trump faced the worst possible opponent, but he also managed to win after the incumbent had presided over a long period of economic stability. The GOP's moronic tax cuts and bank deregulation have made another crash inevitable, and it is very likely to occur after the Dems have retaken the White House. I take your point about demographics, but there will still be more than enough old white people to elect Competent Nazi if the 2024 election takes place post Financial Crisis 2 *and* President Biden with Dem Congress has done nothing about the hosed up system that allows minority rule.

Biden would win quite easily. (That doesn't mean I want him to be the nominee, a lot of Dems would win easily) This "smear campaign" you are envisioning in your head would not be as effective as you seem to be imagining.

Biden would win the general vs Trump easily, absolutely no question. The only effective counter would be as yet undisclosed credible allegations of sexual assault and if those exist they will probably come to light before or during the primary.

There was at least this understanding that if you were racist you didn't say that poo poo openly or call up support. There was some unspoken limitations we pretended to adhere to. Of course there were always assholes and racists before that, but a social dance existed in the media. Something really clicked with the domination of Fox News to where politics became a sport, where each side HAD to gain wins, and Trump took it to a sense of tribalism where party and politician became an actual identity. Politics during Clinton were pretty rough and vindictive, but I don't think we can call that crazy similar to the cuckoo for hosed up puffs we are seeing now.

The racist wing of the republican party really just took over. That's all that happened. Tribalism and intense paranoia about communism fed by their media does the rest.

On my afternoon Rush listening session last week, I had to ENDURE him saying there are no more centrists left in the Democrat party. How all of the democrats are far left whackos now.

I haven't seen The Green Inferno yet, but you should know that it ellicits comments like these:

quote:

It’s funny that Roth decries people not doing anything real, but his movie is about people who actually do something and are eaten for their troubles. From what he says, he mostly questions the motivations of people on the internet who just retweet every post about every new cause. He wonders if they’re sincere or just want to come across as good, caring people in a public forum, and The Green Inferno is, at least in part, his reaction to this phenomenon.

More here: https://www.cinemablend.com/new/Eli-Roth-Movie-About-How-Much-He-Hates-People-Who-Overreact-Twitter-72611.html

So if that's sufficiently leftish for you, that's great. Personally, I don't think that everyone who wants to smash nazis has to complete a 100 page essay on the evils of racism to be accepted as an ally against them or their new God-Emperor Trump.

Exactly. The reaction to Trumpism is (probably) going to hand the Dems full control of the government in 2020. There needs to be a president who will actively push for M4A, admitting PR as a state, packing the Supreme Court, reversing the tax cuts, re-regulating the banks, $15 minimum wage etc etc. Diamond Joe is not the man for the job.

I actually think Kirsten Gillibrand should be the nominee. No matter what she's done in the past she strikes me as someone who will bend whichever way is most politically advantageous, which after four years of Trump is going to be "gently caress the GOP and gently caress decorum".

There are many levels to racism. Being racist by association because you've been indoctrinated into a capitalist economy is pretty loving forgivable.

Being racist because you literally believe people of color are different, inferior, and bad is an entirely different animal that's got little to do with how capitalist someone is at a given moment.

Yes. If the merger goes through Sinclair will have access to something like 70% of all US households. Local news is also seen as far more trustworthy than network news, the company is worse than Fox News.

Their "fake news" hit pieces are written by someone they hired from RT as well. Sinclair uses an actual Kremlin propagandist for their work.

That's how Biden has always been. Seeing people laud him as something other than garbage is largely due to those same people thinking Diamond Joe is real and not just a caricature of a career rear end in a top hat.

The idea of Biden running in 2020, let alone getting the nomination, is vile.
