While it does make the minis more brittle, being able to assemble (or repair) my figures much more quickly outweighs that. Of course, this is a matter of opinion, but I was spending far too long holding 2-hands-on-rifle minis together waiting for the glue to set, and I've never had a problem with them falling apart (Probly as I walk to the FLGS so they don't get kicked around much).

Anyway, I think I'm about done with this - no miners or milk shall be safe !

I've never had a problem with brittle joints using accelerator.

What I usually do is to glue and press the joints together and then drop one drop over the joint.

PanO does look super cool and the fluff is what attracted me to them as well. I'm not trying to be a downer but they are far and away the most boring faction. You will be faced with your opponent's units who do insane things and have piles of equipment and you'll wonder why your guys only have combis, mimetism, and maybe some kind of visor. People will give you poo poo like "oh i wish i had BS15 units" but when you factor in everyone's skills, all the modifiers, and the randomness of the dice it ultimately doesn't mean poo poo except a huge points sink. As an example, there are boxes that come with a model for two different factions. One has PanO and Combined Army. I know you won't know what a lot of this means but here's the breakdown:

PanO: combi rifle, nanopulser, doctor, courage

CA: K1 combi (ignores armor), e/m grenades, smoke grenades, chain colt, climbing plus, specialist operative, Morat (veteran, religious)

The CA unit is two points more expensive but the breadth of options is huge.

Like I said, I'm not trying to be a downer but this is the truth of the matter. PanO wins at the high level pretty regularly but I think those people would be good with any army.

Anyway, here's a decent list made up of all new new models from the various beginner sets. If you have a friend who wants to start Nomads, this is the Operation: Icestorm and Beyond Icestorm sets.

If you're looking to buy piecemeal, it's difficult to pick out the newest and coolest and make a coherent list. Here's some good stuff mixing new and useful.

New:
PanO starter
Joan of Arc (there's three of these. Sword in the air is the newest)
Locust Assault Hacker
Black Friar Multirifle
Warcor
Tikbalang/Uhlan box
Beyond Icestorm (if you can unload the Nomad half)
Nisse HMG (comes with the Nisse hacker which I've never used)
Bagh Mari box and HMG

Useful:
Bulleteers box
Dronbot box (x2 or more eventually)
Mulebot box (for the EVO Hacker which is super useful with the Bulleteers)
Support box (these are ugly as hell. I suggest the Aleph support box and paint them to match)
Swiss Guard HMG (if you can't get Beyond Icestorm)
Crocmen (there's a two pack of the hacker and shotgun)

If you've got any questions about stuff feel free to ask me.

Just got my first models. Is there anything I should know about assembling metal models? I've assembled thousands of 40k plastic and resin ones, but metal is new to me.

Clean them very throughly before assembling, use soap and a soft metal brush, like a suede brush cleaner, until the parts give a good shine.
Then, check for moldlines - on top of guns, on the inner side of the legs, even on some heads and get rid of them with your model knife or a file. Those are VERY annoying.
Prime properly and cover with varnish before painting - that will help you with transporting and when you inevitable drop you models, so you wouldnt get shining battle damage.

Lol, when it's put like that it's embarrassing.

Treitak :allears:

PanO aren't useless, though. They have the nastiest TAG (Jotun or Squallo if you're cheesy enough) and a range of excellent smaller tags (Tikbalang/Uhlan), and a Joan/DeFersen pain train is obscene. MSV3 is handy in the right situation, and PanO has one of 3 units with it.

They lack a lot of tricks but still have some oomph, they're just easy to counter as 90% of the time your opponent will know everything you've got - hidden or not.

PanO and Nomads are the best starting options IMO as they both can be straight-forward but still competitive, so stick with 'em.

Just be prepared to get lured away by sexy units, as you will have none.

What are your thoughts on Ikari company folks? Someone told me that it as a sectorial it was lacking, and it prompted me to make this list. Anyone with 3+ ava of Yuan Yuan can't be that bad. Wu Ming assault corps are also a pretty cost effective HI at about 37 pts per 2 wound multi-rifle in a core link.

Only thing that gets me about the NA2 factions, is how restrictive their links are. If someone in that Wu Ming fireteam goes down, hope you've got a backup plan.

Yeah, just yesterday I forced my StarCo experimenting opponent to look for backup plans when I eliminated Massacre from the linked team - he could not throw away the team leader or immediately take healed Brigadas back in the link.
Still a better option than driving Corregidor Brigada train in anything but Limited insertion.

The fireteam composition stuff is weird, it'd be interesting to see their reasoning. The whole throwing a daktari in with the brigada sure seems like a great way to watch the doctor get absolutely murdered.

TAGs usually have equal or lesser BTS than armor (8-6 is the standard for heavy ones), so if they have a lot of unspent orders, it might be a good idea to shoot a stun shot in ARO - not only they will be forced to search for plan B, they won't be able to go into suppresive fire.

He uses vallejo colours and an airbrush (though decent brush work will get the same result).

The base is periscopes and heavy black green 1:1, then highlights are applied by first mixing in sunny skin tone and then ivory.

If you want desaturated colours highlight with white (ie, ivory), and shade with blacks - but be careful to keep the rich mid-tone or it will look really flat.

Also if you have an airbrush I'd strongly recommend getting Giraldez's book, they're good play-by-play guides.

He does do a "what should I buy as a new player" segment near the beginning of his faction breakdowns too. Starts 7:05.

Edit:

I'll be playing 300 pt against Nomads. I'm expecting a Szalamandra. What's the best way to remove it as IS or Yu Jing? Hsien HMG through smoke? Hac Tao with HMG/ML? E/Mitters? making GBS threads up the place with more than one MadTrap Kanren? I don't feel confident enough in range estimation to be able to catch it with ML's optimum range but outside of HMRC's.

You think that now but then you end up liking it and you want all the minis for your army "just in case" and then you start on terrain and then you finally say to yourself "you know what, I do want to start Combined Army" and the whole process starts over.

Most PanO players eventually move full time to either SAA or super elite ten order NCA, both of which are good for different reasons. MO players are a whole different brand. The new releases typically get poasted in here as well.
