I need to pick up HoD, but I keep on thinking that most of my Vic2 play time would be converted games that I'm not running because I'm also real far behind on EU4 DLC, plus I'm sure they'll announce Vic3 shortly after I finally do buy it.

There's just too much development (while simultaneously being way, way, lower than it actually should be) for conventional mechanics to suffice for it. There needs to be something that just swings whole chunks of it under your control rapidly. Russia gets area claims, maybe the China regions should get area coring. Yea, this what I was hoping to happen when they started unveiling MoH. You could give different E Asian nations their own unique dynastic name if they take the mandate.

Koramei posted:I still think the thunderdome is just really boring though. It's just what the entire rest of the game is but with generic tags; having a strong China makes the region much more unique in the game world. What I'd really like to see in terms of variety, rather than China exploding (more than once in a blue moon anyway) is just different dynasties. Qing, Yuan, Tibet, Vietnam, Korea. Or hell, "oh poo poo, Sarig Yogir conquered China, how'd that happen?" You get that with every other region in the game, and while having Ming-eternal precludes that, nobody's ever going to give a poo poo about Wu or Yan getting swoll.

hoi4 is fun. just got done conquering germany and soviet union with a tag team of poland and romania with a friend. Some stuff is clunky as hell still, like divisions shuffling around and exchanging positions for no apparent reason, or how armies deal with pockets forming. anyone try to play as manchukuo with the newest dlc?

GrossMurpel posted:What does that mean? Is it synonymous with Idea Guy or does it involve programming? Content Designer here: it is a really weird position that is pretty much unique to Paradox. The reason is that we have a very powerful and fairly accessible scripting language that handles pretty much all the player-facing content of the game. The joke around the office is "Programmers do code, Game Designers do balance and mechanics, Artists do art, QA does testing, Content Designers do EVERYTHING ELSE". More specifically, we do - events - map work - national focus trees (Hearts of Iron only) - anomalies, ascension perks, technologies - missions - decisions - leaders (art, traits, names) - historical research for art - (often) reworking programmer English into things people can actually understand - AI work, in so far as it can be scripted but in general, anything the script language can do is sooner or later going to end up on our table in one way or another. It is an amazingly interesting job with a ton of creative freedom. It has elements of being the Idea Guy, but you are very much expected to actually implement your idea using the scripting language. You don't have to know a programming language but it help a lot. I'd say being able to explain the difference between a logic AND and a logic OR (and how the logic OR differs from the colloquial "or") is as much programming as you really need. I guess the short version is we're paid modders. With how flexible the scripting language is, making a mod probably covers like 90% of what we do. Which is why we are recruiting modders pretty heavily (recently hired one of the guys who made the GoT mod for CK 2)

Internally content designers are referred to as "CDs" for short, which works because we're Cool Dudes Edit: to actually contribute, any text (any at all) you see in our games will have been written or at least edited by a Content Designer. The last time I applied to a gaming-related posting (that very same pdx freelance content designer gig), I actually put a specific SA link in part of it, since I thought showcasing some LP writing and LP-related modding might be a good idea. I still don't know what I'm doing when I'm applying to these things.
