I dunno, the pacing was bad, so much time was wasted and taken away from the main characters on setting up the crew for the heist and all these other setting characters like the Heretics Court and Himself that sound cool on paper but never really did much to begin with and were ultimately just exposition or excuses for Abaddon to show off new character designs, this new relationship is dumb fanservice, and now I'm just waiting for, I dunno, a dumb fight to end it all and get onto maybe a better arc.light for the lost posted:you're an idiot Turn your monitor on, lmao.

Uh I might go out on a limb and say "actually, the Heretic's Court and related characters, including the devil heist crew, were an engaging way of fleshing out Cio both directly and indirectly so as to set up her development as a parallel to Allison's, as they both engage in furious self-hatred and self-destructive behavior to which Mammon and sure-Ynamon serve as a counterpoint and warning, making their rather fraught relationship a key emotional dynamic going forward" but really who couldn't see that.

PetraCore posted:Why do you think that? I can see where he's coming from. Considering Alison has been nothing but a dick for pretty much the entire comic, it didn't feel to me like that kiss had been earned. However that's quite literally the only sour beat for hundreds of pages of book so I'm not ready to declare the whole thing garbage just yet. I don't know what the gently caress earned means in a context of the kiss, but Cio had been obviously crushing on Alilson since the beginning of book 2.

I really love how there's a camp of readers who think the kiss is unearned because Cio has been nothing but a self-serving monster the entire time, and a camp that holds that it's unearned because Allison has been nothing but a thoughtless jerk the entire time. Me, I think they're both right, and that the kiss happened because they're both being self-loathing and out of their depths while caring about the other one as much as they are capable of at the moment. I trust Abaddon to not have this be the end of the mess their relationship has been so far. Also, in terms of 'earned' I think that the kiss and framing absolutely were 'earned' - they'd both managed to back down from their worst and most vicious selves, they'd seen each other in their own actions and vice versa, they were both happy to be alive and not total monsters. I think it's probably a relationship that's going to take a lot more working out, but, it's been built up towards and it fits into their emotional arcs, and the two of them both seem extremely adrift in this horrible cosmos and it doesn't surprise me that even the particularly hosed-up empathy of one trying-to-not-be-a-monster for another is more positive and heartfelt emotion than either of them has really been able to feel for a while. Basically, Allison is Milhouse and Cio is the other Milhouse, and this is what it feels like when doves cry.

Well the next comic has Allison pushing Cio away and asking her what the gently caress she was thinking, because that was neither the time nor the place. So.

I don't see what's so unearned about it. If you follow a girl everywhere and do nice things for her and write creepy fanfiction about her and beat the poo poo out of her when she tries to get away from you, then she HAS to be your girlfriend!

Yeah that's cool and all but there's like multiple pages set up just wasted setting these crew members as super badass and specialists but whoops none of them do that much or have any personality. Could've just been better served by having them be nameless thugs from Oskar's gang so we could focus on the characters that matter (Cio, Oskar, and Allison). Anyway the Cio and Allison relationship is kinda creepy as stated by others and I don't think Allison hanging a lampshade on it by going "woah this is hosed up" really excuses it. Also I feel like every comic written by a straight guy with a female protagonist these days has the protagonist turn out to be bi or lesbian so the author doesn't have to write a relationship with a dude in it. ElMaligno posted:get the gently caress out my thread Not quite sure what's with the hostility. Not like I'm saying the comic is ruined or w/e, I just don't like this arc and wish it to be concluded so we can get on to a hopefully better arc. Sometimes comics have a bad stretch for a bit, that's fine! Maybe future developments will make this arc better for having set them up!
