Yeah. Different maps, somewhat more diverse win conditions on some maps and no more OP carry heroes (unless you count whatever new hero comes out for a month or so before nerf lol)

Still a lovely moba but the best of the genre

Also specialist heroes rule and you don't need to autistically time every swing to get golds.

Now see I don't like MMO's either but at least I "get" it. I like RPGs, I like numbers going up as a consequence of repetitive action. I just hate interacting with other gamers so I don't play multiplayer stuff. It seems like games really emphasize online multiplayer these days, that's another thing I don't get. To me the solitary nature of video games is part of the appeal.

idk man, i thought that i'd get it before i tried an mmo but you didn't even really get to play those early ones, you just clicked on something now and then and your characters was on autopilot. it's gotten better over the years as internet speed has become less of a bottleneck but back then wow was like a screensaver.

i mean wow is more like those mobile games with long cooldowns on everything you can do than an RPG.

I agree but they've refined the hamster wheel down to a science so people get the good brain tingles from stuff in-game. That's why people play it, because they're addicted to it.

sure, it's a lot more robust now, but originally when it came out it made me feel like gaming had changed and i was left behind. wow wasn't fun, it was tedious and boring! i was still playing baldur's gate 2, jagged alliance 2 and fallout 2 at that point. hell i'm still playing them

The more realistic a game is, the more exponentially boring it becomes: inspired by this video from crowbcat:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCeEvQ68jY8

Far Cry 2 had a bunch of neat little details that Far Cry 5 does not have. Do they make the game better? On the contrary. I remember constantly dealing with bushfires, gun jamming, the stupid map system, and being stuck in stupid animations; all those little details just made the game a drag to play and I never finished the game because I got sick of it.

Also, graphics that chase realism never hold up as well as games that have their own style.

It's actually the opposite. If you're "bad" and don't understand the mechanics of the game, you end up having more fun because you don't understand when it's impossible to win. When you actually understand the game, you sometimes realize you lose at the pick screen/within the first 5 min and then spend another grueling 30 min losing until the game ends.

I feel like on their own, in a better game, they would work. Dealing with infinitely spawning enemies while the ground is constantly on fire, can't even shoot my gun while my partner dies of malaria was a lesson in patience.

MOBAs are the worst.

Killing Floor 2 is great but you need to get some actual Doom mods because Doom is still something special. I recommend Heretical Doom or the ol' classic Brutal Doom to start. Heretical Doom is more fun than it has any right to be; it's not just Doom with heretic stuff and it's amazing as it constantly treads a line between "You are OP and this is too easy" and "holy gently caress I'm dead."

I think my biggest issue with KF2 is that there's not enough modes that give you constant reason to move so it's more of a turret defense game than a FPS sometimes. I still like the game, because I like turret defense, but there's no denying this.

ED: Also door welding is completely worthless when playing the game fairly, and when cheesing the gently caress out of it it's OP. A tip for you: Weld doors that you're not going to be near. The Zeds will always, always path to a different route if one is available. So if you like weld 3 doors in an upstairs area and leave one open, they ALL funnel through the one open one as long as you don't get close to the doors. You can strangle the wave spawn time doing it on some maps.

Once every few years I figure out what doom engines are current and get all the new popular doom stuff. I played brutal doom a few years ago and it did indeed own. I even found some multiplayer wad that played like killing floor with a vendor and waves of demons. I'm due to do that again soon I think.

The only real use for the welder is to troll your teammates by welding them in a room full of zeds. :getin:

Right now the one everyone uses is gzdoom. The latest version is real solid.

There's a ton of great mods, and some interact well. The Doom 4 weapon mod works good with most other mods for example.

ED: I can't endorse Heretical Doom (with the enemy mod) enough paired with a good map wad. You are REAL overpowered and REAL fragile; you can do stuff like stop time in mid fight, run around and fire 100 shots, then resume time and all 100 shots wipe out the room and can regenerate your own health instantly yet the game is still hard as balls. It's the most fun Doom mod I've had in a long time.

If anything it's exceedingly obvious when you are losing a DOTA match, and exceedingly excruciating because DOTA players like to play with their food and extend games out.

Dyna Soar posted:

DOTA and its direct clones are literally nothing but Warcraft 3 without base or troop management. In that way it's sort of elegant, as it gets to the only thing really unique about WC3 (at the time, anyway). However, people hate and fear change, so every effort was made by every developer to prevent the DOTA model from improving or significantly innovating until HOTS showed up.

Between DOTA and WOW, what really annoyed me was almost every developer making games that looked like WoW (glowing cartoon characters surrounded by crystals) for 10 years.
