The best part is that nobody from the Red Guard was ever rewarded beyond being allowed to kill a few teachers and ransack some homes. The Government elite were made up of people who were born before the war (the first one) and it wasn't until they started dieing that their kids replaced them. Your average Red Guard ran wild for a few years then were thrown to the curb (if they were lucky). In some cases they even tried to take on the PLA, and naturally (taking on an actual fighting force who were armed and who still had vets from Korea in their ranks) ended up getting owned pretty badly. Near the end of the cultural revolution the PLA were actually killing Red Guards en masse via mass executions.

But I agree, Democratic socialism is great. But if you look at most European states people seem to rather vote for parties that gently caress over everyone as long as said party sticks it to "the immigrants" than vote for a party that'd improve their lives.

It's a less fortunate/more fortunate divide. The lesser half could blame globalization, government policies, aging, etc but they listen to the people who blame immigrants because its an easy excuse that appeals to their tummy feels.

A really interesting look is the hard divide between what was East and West Germany.

It's a deep level of retardation brought about by the same poo poo yellow press, internet feverswamps and reality tv, because people have no reference how good they have it. You'd need to live in a really poo poo country like the US or some other hole to appreciate universal healthcare, nice public transportation, public safety etc.
