Unless it's an uber-deep cut from the '90s, I dunno. It kind of reminds me of something else, too, but not necessarily another one of his songs.

I don't know if this is more suited for a different thread but I have been listening to Nicholas Jaar's Against All Logic on loop since it was released. This track in particular is nuts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaSEOVulOY0&t=1s

St. Vincent named some more tour dates today, and finally, she's coming back to Toronto. There's an artist presale on Wednesday. I signed up for her e-mail. Should I be doing something else to get the presale code?

I hope she's gotten better on this tour. I saw her like 4 years ago for digital witness and she was fantastic, but she was terrible last year. Her show is very scripted and didn't feel like a live show whatsoever. I know it was another image change for her, but man was I bored after a few songs and ready to leave by mid set.

The "spiced up karaoke" criticism of the Massueduction tour definitely seemed to have merit.

I saw her back in December and thought it was a fantastic show. It's stripped down with a lot of backing tracks yes, but it was loud as gently caress and sounded awesome. Great track list hitting all of her albums, the videos playing behind her were cool and she's such a good guitarist it was great watching her play.

I haven't seen a ton of discussion about it in this thread yet, but holy jesus the new Unknown Mortal Orchestra album is amazing. I liked that Honeybee track someone posted earlier but can't get enough of this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad2Iy0DMCWU

It just felt like she was so disconnected the entire show and it was a real let down. I feel like I had this same sentiment with her last year when the album came out. She makes great music, but her attempt to create new personas always bugs me.

There's TOO MUCH new poo poo coming out, with the new Hinds and the new Unknown Mortal Orchestra out on the same day and Tom Misch just released a new record too, and I just discovered another Seattle supergroup called Who is She? and also found out about this band called Peach Kelli Pop that is right up my alley. Luckily by the time the new Rolling Blackouts CF record comes out I will have listened to everything.

We had the discussion before but yes too much stuff always coming out that you'd like to hear but adult life and other forms of entertainment mean you'll never get to hear it all or as much as you'd like, so it becomes a thing of sticking to what you love over just like. Someone said that if music doesn't seem to grab them right away anymore they just move on and I am starting to get to that point myself.

For the sensitive kids, there was a good article about today's wave of young female indie singer-songwriters. Mentioned therein: Mitski, Waxahatchee, Jay Som, Soccer Mommy, Lucy Dacus, and Snail Mail.Jia Tolentino posted:It is, in part, this deadpan self-consciousness—and the instinct for expressing it in a way that feels expansive and fruitful, never narrow or limiting—that gives the work of these singer-songwriters such emotional accuracy. There is an irony creeping into all of our despondence these days. The volume of good and at least interesting music coming out these days is truly overwhelming, but it makes me happy.

Eighteen years ago today (give or take) I had my bachelor party at Schubas. A few years later I saw the Courtneys play there. I wonder if they were out of elementary school when I was there the first time. Lydia Loveless, Sidney Gish, Lisa Prank, Tacocat, etc. IDK why except that they are really good.

If you're going to talk about female-fronted bands, at least talk about good ones, like Young Galaxy, who have a new album out now: Stay For Real - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaxcZ_9ExIQ or, my personal fave by the band, Factory Flaws - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUQz9aHeTvM Also, I saw Franz Ferdinand for like the 5th time this weekend, and they were amazing as always.

Finally got to see Julien Baker live last night, and I was not disappointed in the least. I like that even though the new album has more background instrumentals her live shows are still just essentially her and a guitar/piano. "Claws in your Back" is just devastating live.

I went with a professional colleague since we're all in Nashville for a work conference, an older lady who isn't very familiar with the Decemberists, but loves live music. I had an incredible time, and I'm happy to say that she did too. I marked out so hard for "Ben Franklin's Song" in their first encore, as a Lin-Manuel Miranda and Hamilton fanboy.
