I believe in a universe that doesn't care, and people that do.

I fell out of reading comics for most of the '90s. (Lucky timing, I guess.) :shobon:

Despite the clone saga being emblematic of the problems with 90s comics, there are actually quite a few decent spider-man comics from the 90s. And even the lovely Howard Mackie stuff at least has great art.

JR Jr studied fashion in his free time and it showed during his Spider-man run, his characters always wore pretty spiffy clothes.

And I believe before being in comics, his dad was in commercial illustration (like other Golden/Silver Age artists) and you can see that draftsmanship and fashion experience in his Spider-Man comics right away.

Any chance you can keep posting these, or link to the actual thread?

They're individual threads for each album, I don't know that it's gonna be a thing, just that two have been posted in the last couple of days. But sure I'll post em here I love to post

Another reason to love the man. He's done work that other artists look at and say "I could never get on that level" and he's totally humbling himself.

We don't need to have that dialogue because it's obvious, trivial, and has already been had a thousand times.

Del Otto did two issues of Avenging Spider-Man where Spidey teams up with Devil Dinosaur in the Savage Land against a black T-Rex called Demon Dinosaur, and it's freaking great.

This one is my favourite mostly because of how loving terrible the average comic book artist is at drawing little kids. They always look like weird short adults instead of actual children, so Del'otto being able to render a smug, chubby kiddo is almost more impressive than all the badass action scenes.

I've got pretty much an entire bookcase displaying Del'Otto right now, on account of him having done the spine mural for the Hachette Ultimate Marvel Collection. All 170 volumes of it.

If you had the time to devote to keeping up the appearance of being an actual artist you could probably get a few fill in issues somewhere honestly. The bar is real real low now that computer art is a Thing but still too new a Thing for the average reader (or more likely, editor) to notice when the artist is not trying at all.

Worst thing is that it's often done by guys that are actually good at drawing, it sucked when Kyle Baker started doing it.

I was reading the Let's Read thread for the Official Handbook, and you guys might not care for Null, The Living Darkness, but as a kid I thought he was really creepy.

(All from The Defenders #114. Those are the best panels of Null from the book; the rest of the time penciller Don Perlin and inker Mike Gustovich are taking as many shortcuts as they can with his rendering to crank pages out.)
