The Greed of War With the great war over, many just wanted to enjoy themselves. The Olympic committee, recently founded, seems like a venture that Japan can get behind. Our athletic prowess is second only to our military prowess.  The ending of the great war did not mean that it was peace in our time however. Bavaria and Austria attempted to settle old scores, while Germany found itself in a frightful situation. A war had broken out between Germany and Russia. Germany was currently dealing with an internal communist threat. The Emperor, weighing his options, believed that the only solution was to punish Russia for interfering. Exhausted Japanese combat troops in Europe prepared for another war.  Many socialists and communists in Japan protested the war declaration on Russia. They viewed this war as a needless imperial adventure, and the war goals more oriented towards preventing the spread of communism than helping the Ukrainians. Those who expressed this view were quietly interred until the war ended. Japan's democracy was best viewed through the eyeglasses of cynicism.  Japanese troops plow through Ingria with little resistance. Although theoretically the Russian military had recovered, there was no major organized resistance. The only capable army was walloped in St. Petersburg, and the German army surged over the border.  Frustrated by the large amounts of partisans and the slow progress in the war, the Emperor ordered the immediate use of brand new chemical weapons all across the Russian front. An unspeakable horror was wrought on the Russian people, and with no anti-gas technology, remaining Russian units broke rank instantly.  Brazil, impressed by our resourcefulness during the Great War, as well as our mission against the spread of communism, offers us an alliance. The Emperor sends a resounding yes to the government in Rio de Janiero. With the exception of North America (and even then, Scandinavian colonies in the Caribbean can support a force), Japan had an ally or military presence on every single continent. Although statisticians say the US is the most powerful country at this moment, geopolitically Japan stands tall.  As we occupy most of European Russia, Austria-Hungary intervenes and demands we cease fire. A ridiculous proposition, and with no way for Austria-Hungary to threaten our troops in Europe, the demand for peace is torn up and thrown in the representatives face.  The blood thirsty Austro-Hungarians invade Ukraine to try and force a path open to Russia. With the request of the Ukrainian government, we intervene and Iwata shows them who is boss.  With their armies destroyed, a war against Ukraine and possible war against Germany, with most of Russia occupied, the two nations throw in the towel.  Poland-Lithuania is created with a Swedish monarch. A friendly buffer zone between Germany and Russia now exists with heavy influence from both Scandinavia and Japan. Although it will have separatism issues in the beginning, we will keep some troops deployed there to help the government in training its new army.  We happily attend the 1908 Olympic Games.  After a few years of peace pass, Scandinavia hopes to finish off Russia once and for all. The Emperor, knowing that Scandinavia was the real backbone for the defense of Europe in the Great War, as well as seeing Scandinavian assistance to Japan in our darkest hour, joins the war.  With little to no resistance, and having won previous wars through the might of Japan alone, the populace becomes even more jingoistic. It is essentially a decree now that if you are a male between 18 and 35, that you will be a member of the army. Japan is a nation of soldiers, and the jingoism flows like wine.  As our military continues to easily occupy Russia along with Scandinavia, we are the first to discover the south pole! A marvelous day for our nation.  As we continue to clean up Russia, the Emperor decides that although he wanted to cut Russia down to size, the Ottoman and Scandinavian concessions will do far more damage in the long run. The prestige hit that will be taken is balanced out by our discovery of the south pole. However, the 2nd Great War breaks out between Germany, the UK, and Ukraine vs. Scandinavia and Bavaria. Scandinavia has little hope to succeed, but the Emperor of Scandinavia refuses to call in Japan, for reasons unknown.  After another year of occupation, and Russia's collapse into anarcho-liberalism, Russia surrenders. Much of the north is ceded to Scandinavia, who then rushes back to their homeposts to defend against the inevitable German onslaught. Japan has done their job.  Scandinavia has completely gutted Russia's industrial capacity, as well as their ability to ever wage war again. [img][/img] After three more years of intense fighting at the Flensburg line, Scandinavian resistance collapses. Eventual destruction of the Scandinavian fleet during the battle of Jutland results in German forces being able to plunge as far into Scandinavia as Växjö and Borås. Scandinavia signs a humiliating surrender, and Bavaria is annexed by Germany.  A Danish puppet state now exists in Jylland. Although Copenhagen and Fyn are still under Scandinavian control, this will certainly cause extreme tension over the next few years, and call into question the Scandinavian government's legitimacy. Germany also seized Flensburg, viewing it as German territory.  China was preparing to ascend to Great Power status while the fighting in Europe was going on. The Emperor of Japan decided that this could not stand. China was attempting to annex territory in the west, and consolidation of the Chinese Empire meant very bad news for Japan. With Guangxi and Yunnan backing him, Japan prepared for war once more with China, hoping to deal the killing blow to China once and for all.  On June 14 1914, Japan invaded China through Manchuria and its holdings on the coast. Although Chinese resistance was ferocious, it would prove to be futile...  Within one month of Guangxi and Yunnan joining the war, the Chinese Empire had lost over 400,000 troops through attacks in central and northern China.  This type of battle happened six times in a row. In the west, Yunnan and Guangxi had similar kill counts. With hardly occupying any of China, within four months, the warscore was well above what was required to seize more of coastal China.  China surrendered, humiliated, and their rise to great power status arrested for the next few decades. Japan added almost 10 million people, and although the literacy rate dropped from 89% to 65%, Japanese schooling would soon lift the literacy rate in China by a substantial amount.  Japan is now 1st in prestige and military, and 6th in industrial score. We refuse to be stopped.  How the powers change. Austria-Hungary and France are now on the receiving end of a massive German, British, Danish and Ukrainian onslaught. Scandinavia and Japan wisely keep to isolation as these continental superpowers slug it out again. What can stop Japan?  Maybe this.  World of 1915. Wait, looking at what I'm assuming is the diplomatic relations table(?) Brazil is now #8. I'd say we keep up V2 strengthening Brazil, the Axis could be Japan/Brazil. We don't have a major socialist state either yet, right? It would be interesting if allies ended up being US, France, UK and the communists were Scandinavia, Germany, Austria.

The End I want to note that despite all the zany fun that had happened after 1920, it was making it seriously impossible to set the stage for HOI4. I decided to go back to my 1920 save and end it there.  Watching the Scandinavian border closely, it appears that Russia is descended into a civil war between fascists, reactionaries, and communists. The outlook is not good for the people of Russia.  After nearly two years of peace and nothing happening, Scandinavian decides it will attempt to reclaim its lost territory in Sjaelland. The Emperor obliges, but vows not to send any more combat troops than the ones already stationed in Europe. The public is tired of wars, as Japan has been involved in a conflict for almost 80% of the time since 1836.  A combined Dano-German task force is thwarted in the city of Copenhagen. They will be rolled back into Denmark.  Despite international tension, the Olympic Games are still held, and we claim quite a few gold medals. Just more prestige for the glorious nation of Japan.  The Danish army is wiped out in entirety in Esbjerg. Danish resistance is no more, and with the German army pushed back to Kiel, we bide our time and wait for the warscore to run up. Massive German losses in Odense and Copenhagen with the inability to retreat have driven the warscore through the roof.  In mid 1919, Germany decides that our agreement that Scandinavia shall be returned Denmark seems ultimately fair. At the treaty of Washington (the only country viewed as entirely neutral in European conflicts), Sjaelland is handed back to Scandinavia, and politically Scandinavia is whole again.  With the overthrow of the Governor-General of New Zealand, we decide to incorporate the anarcho-liberal New Zealand into our sphere.  In late 1919, Persia calls us in as an ally to take Oman's African colonies. Although we have no doubt that Persia can handle this on their own, we decide that we will make Oman our puppet.  The war concludes, and Oman is reduced to a fiefdom underneath the Imperial Crown. The year 1920 has come. Combat is now so far different from what Victoria II can handle, and future wars that were fought showed the system acting extremely abnormally. Although a few wanted to see Victoria II played to its full extent, things just did not work out properly in the end. Playing to 1936 led to odd diplomatic choices by nearly every country, and although Japan technically lost a great war that happened from 1934-1936, the game was so unstable that the screen would keep flashing when I took a screenshot. Because of this, I have decided that in a similar vein to Ofaloaf's LP, we shall have some votes on what happened in the historical period between 1920 and 1936. This will also allow for hypothetical power blocs to form, which will set the stage for Hearts of Iron IV. Thank you for all that participated!

The UK seized Bretagne, thus essentially resulting in the UK having their 100 years wars gains back. Fascist Zulu/Communist Oranje (I like this so much I might just implement it in HOI 4) Sokto declared war on Scandinavia to try and get land, and captured a good amount of Africa before being driven back. Germany attempting to free Iceland in the last great war Israel being announced, and Israeli rebels taking over a good chunk of Israel, while Egypt invaded the Ottoman Empire The UK was fabricating war goals on New Zealand by the end. I say C. I picture it as being essentially how China or Italy was for a long time in our timeline, lots of feuding factions scheming, allying, and backstabbing each other trying to climb their way to the top of the pile and then manage to stay there.
