CannonFodder posted:So those task forces with a E next to them, are they empty of fuel or just out of ammo and thus combat ineffective? Just means it’s a task force with the mission of Escort. When a ship in a task force gets heavily damaged, it will automatically break off into an escort TF with an escort (if available) and head back to its home port, or maybe just a nearby friendly port. But, you can also make escort task forces manually and put anything you want in them. So, the E task force often means that there’s a damaged ship there, but not always.

Ow. Brutal surface match but you took out the Iowa! At the cost of nearly all your BB's being in bad shape.. But think you have any chance of taking out the Tennessee as well? She was burning and you have Carriers in the area.. Presuming you're disengaging your surface TF's back to Rabaul is anything going to be ccapable of raiding them bfeore they make it back to port? And why isn't the USN massing carriers? They should have at least.. 4-6 Essex class carriers or CV's that they could have, instead they just seem to be using CVE's as the occasional raider. wedgekree fucked around with this message at 17:51 on Apr 10, 2018 |

The Musashi is just fine and perfectly happy, and in fact Grey is just about to send it to a farm upstate where it can sail around with all the other battleships.

On the upside there don't appear to be any Allied carriers in the area, the only known Allied ships are disengaging under what is hopefully going to be heavy air attack from Rabaul and the Kido Butai, so there shouldn't be any threats to the ships while they disengage back to port (Other than thier own damage control)..

If it's any consolation, the Americans only have three Iowa-class battleships left and we've run through most if not all of the SoDaks and Pearl Harbour battleships.

Jonny Nox posted:Task force is going to have to Scuttle Musashi. If 14 hits can kill a BB, 18 is The Musashi is: -25 years newer -more than twice the tonnage -50 meters longer -has >8 inch rather than <2 inch deck armor -has 16 inch rather than 12 inch belt armor -more than twice the sailors The ships really aren't that comparable. Now, the Musashi certainly might still be in danger of sinking/already sunk/a sitting duck, but don't write her off yet. Edit: Can the US alter their historical ship-building like the Japanese can? Technically the Illinois and Kentucky should be under construction and could theoretically be finished for the war. With the desperate shortage the US has in BBs now (and the general slow pace of the war), it seems likely those would have been completed rather than scrapped/delayed. Yeah it's almost impossible to compare Musashi and Yamashiro. For an apt comparison, compare USS Texas with USS Iowa. They're both BBs but a quantum leap apart in design and capabilities.

Musashi was expressly designed to fight two Yamashiro equivalents at the same time.

BB-65 and -66 weren’t even laid down until very late in the war. Using the construction times for the other four Iowa class ships as a guide, they wouldn’t be done until 1947 at the earliest. The game ends too soon, sadly. (They were both originally ordered as Montana class battleships, but the order was changed to an Iowa follow-on, which accounts for the elapsed time between the last of the completed Iowas and the keel-laying of the two follow-on hulls.)

It's great for moving troops from safe locations to safe locations, but an invasion craft it ain't. If it got near harbor every defense gun would be trained on it, and hitting it because it's really big. CannonFodder fucked around with this message at 02:05 on Apr 11, 2018 |
