there's plenty of ways to have an effective protest without doing down the decorum rabbithole, but they involve actually fighting for your beliefs, and confronting the sources of power in society. but that carries some actual risk, so it's much safer to just dress up like a court jester, and then dance around - you're safe, but people don't take you seriously, so you're ineffective (which is precisely the reason you're safe).
