I recently replayed Monkey Island 3 for the first time in about 20 years and managed to blast through it in about 6 hours on muscle memory. What a (mostly) excellent series.

In pop culture, whenever someone says "I was a kid and my father sat me down for The Talk", they are referring a sex & reproduction talk, not a "that's it, no more crying" talk.

The movie The Incredible Shrinking Woman doesn't end with the titular shrinking woman becoming so tiny that she dissolves in a wet paper towel. The image of Lily Tomlin agonizingly dying was an invention my tiny baby brain. (I've also just realized that the movie came out two years before I was born, so when the gently caress did I watch it?) e: vvv guess I have to elaborate for some folks; watching early-80s gender-swapped comedy versions of 50s-era sci-fi/drama movies wasn't exactly my wheelhouse (or my parent's) at the age I place the memory at. Hope this helps. MisterBibs has a new favorite as of 08:35 on Apr 7, 2018 |

Until a piece on NPR like four-five years ago, I had no idea who Jimi Hendrix was, or that he was even black. Never came up during my upbringing, and wasn't/isn't even in the zip code of the venn diagram that is my musical tastes vs the musical tastes of my friends/family. Just not even anywhere in my periphery. I may have even confused Hendrix with Dimebag Darrell, because they were both associated with that "one" friend who was kinda on the border of my group of friends growing up, and also that in conversation both were mentioned with death as a theme (?). For awhile after learning he was black I may have even confused him with Prince in my mind re: what he looked like, because Prince also occupied that space of my brain that was like "I don't like this music so I'm not going to devote any brainpower into remembering who this is." I specifically remember being confused when that pepsi/coke commercial came out that was apparently referencing Hendrix because I "just didn't get what the big deal was," or why people were angry about the commercial. That's all different, now, but I'll admit that learning about all three of those people was a very weird trip down Wikipedia articles and YouTube videos circa 2013-ish, because I thought they were all alternately the same person. It's crazy how what you perceive as a child/teenager can haunt your adulthood, even with the Internet.

Jimmy John's, Papa John's, and Papa Murphy's are all the same restaurant that makes you cook your own pizzas and sandwiches. I have looked up the difference between them a bunch of times but they always go back to being the same restaurant when I hear them mentioned. Why even bother ordering an uncooked pizza? gently caress Papa John, Papa Murphy, and Jimmy John for that bullshit gimmick.
