Crunch time is awful. I've been an animator for close to 4 years and only had 2 projects that had major crunch. The first was my first gig so I was fine to be working until 9 at night because i needed to get better. But the second project was lovely and I mostly ignored the overtime requests. The biggest toll was on the leads, some of whom worked 90 hour weeks for months.

Thankfully we will never have that client again thanks to them being acquired by a rival conglomerate.

yeah, what's insane is that Silicon Valley Start ups and video game companies treat crunch time as normal, instead of what it really is: Staggering awful time-management and unrealistic expectations on the part of the executives and something that should be avoided.

It's so stupid because after so many hours people start making mistakes with cache-ing cloth or seeing spacing issues, so shots that are "fixed" have to get fixed again, and again, and again.

I imagine programmers aren't much good after 8 hours solid work either, so they're just hurting their own products.

New Incredibles 2 trailer out. I was already excited, but I'm even more excited now. Not particularly concerned about it not measuring up to the first film - it looks like it's going to be on the upper end of Pixar sequels.

Has anyone watched Final Space yet? I just caught up and I’m f-ing loving it. It’s got this weird ability to be both completely ridiculous and 100% sincere at the same time that I haven’t seen done before.

“I think we’re about to hug.”

“Should we?”

(Said with complete sincerity) “The siren’s call is beckoning us to embrace. We shan’t ignore her!”

No.

Do you know who Susan Sarandon, Stephen Fry, and Steve Buschemi are? They’re there too.

Forget about “the premise” the entire show isn’t really about any of those things. It’s about oyster bars, jitneys, and Babylon 5.

So, I was forced to escort thirty preteens to see Sherlock Gnomes.

It's a pretty middling movie, but also the conceit is really bizarre. Like it's not just gnomes are alive, it's all decorations. But decoration becomes very broad and includes gargoyles and then includes toys.

OK, I was definitely too hard on the Peabody and Sherman Show. That or the first episode just sucked. It's got some issues and not all the jokes land but the art style is fun and the writers are clearly having a good time. I'm still kind of miffed that they went with this weird talkshow format and nor a more standard action/adventure deal with a tone similar to the movie but for what it is it seems perfectly fine.

Also I'm genuinely shocked I didn't notice that Chris Parnell is Peabody the first time around. I'm so ashamed of myself right now.

Tragically, no. Which is too bad because Gary has better romantic chemistry with Avocado than he does with his actual love interest.

The Peabody and Sherman crew is basically the Secret Mountain Fort Awesome crew that didn't move onto Uncle Grandpa (a group that has a bunch of Classic cartoon network guys like showrunner David P Smith, who used to be a boarder on Dexter's Lab and Powerpuff Girls and was a producer on SMFA, and Robot Jones creators Greg Miller and Mike Stern) with Kevin Dart (art director on the Powerpuff Girls Dance Pantsed special, which was directed by David P Smith, and early Steven Universe) as Art Director

The people editing trailers are really bad about making the lipsync match with the dialogue. The Boss Baby TV show trailer had the timing all wrong to the point that the mouth shapes just looked random, but the show itself is synced correctly.

And now a Pixar film comes out and they screwed up timing the audio to the lipsync on the last sequence. The animators must be tearing their hair out.

i really hope Grave of the Fireflies played first because I feel like Totoro would be the perfect antidote to the mood at the end of that movie.

on the other hand, if you watch Totoro first and get lulled into a false sense of security then watching GotF would be like being punched in the face.

Or are they gonna remove the best song in the movie like they are doing with Lion King
