Anyone have any recs for a good pocket WiFi that I can rent/drop off from Haneda? Seems there are a ton of companies and I have no clue which one is the best or if they are all the same. 15 day duration, 2 devices

I don't know if you can pick it up at Haneda but they'll mail it right to your hotel. Dropping off at the airport is easy.

We had the cheapest rate, 3000 yen base fee + 300/day with 1 GB/day full speed and unlimited at 200 kbps. It's actually possible to also rent an additional battery but I never would have needed one (or a spare USB battery charger)

Haven't needed to actually use a battery to recharge it yet either, but I'd suggest buying one and bringing it with you rather than renting it with the router as it seems far cheaper to do it that way. I got one from japan-rail-pass.com which delivered to the airport (available 24h unlike most others) and never went below 60% battery despite having it on all day.

Having just got back I will endorse tmobile big time for internet. I paid $10 extra for the month for extra speed and it was no different than being back home except for streaming video, which wasn't a big deal. No sim swapping, no extra thing to haul and charge and pick up/drop off, etc. By the way, huge shout out to google maps. Aside from super detailed maps for walking it did a nearly perfect job with public transportation navigation. It has routes, schedules, tells you how many stops to go and even how much to pay. Hyperdia was better for JR stuff but maps was the poo poo for day to day. Especially the feature that colors in...I don't know what you call it, areas with high concentrations of restaurants and bars and stores and stuff. Keeps you from accidentally wandering into mundane office/residential areas. Although, I did have a really good time walking through a mundane residential area in sugamo to visit an onsen where I was the only white person. So that was worth it.

Especially sugamo where it has a rep of having all these shady sex shops and desperate Japanese language program dormitories. What matters in life is reading all sorts of weird books or brain food with alt right leanings that value common sense and hard work. Actually the Kyushu country side is super pretty and fun and full of good food but you really need a local connection.

Hello. I am traveling to Japan for 7 nights. Possibly 8. I am planning to go to Osaka - Kyoto area. Also, I plan to do Tokyo for 1 day. From Osaka-Kyoto, I'm interested in some of the nature spots/scenic areas from there, perhaps beach, perhaps mountain, perhaps countryside villages. Any suggestions around that area? I'm trying to find good resources and looking at Google Maps too but was hoping for recommendations. Please also kindly to be informing me where can I pick up my anime waifu? Skip Tokyo. For 7 or 8 nights in Osaka/Kyoto, you can easily do 3 days in Kyoto, day trip to Nara, day trip to Himeji, day trip to goofing around Kobe, day trip going up to Arima Onsen or Mt Rokko, plus all of the stuff that's actually in Osaka. Another option is to go down to Hiroshima for a few days and work your way back up towards Osaka. e: the trip to Tokyo is ~$100ish and 2h45m each way, the kansai 5 day pass is 13500円 and it's only 1h10m from Shin-Kobe to Hiroshima e2: vvv i'm gonna eat at backyard bbq just to spite you tomorrow e3: Go do the Shimanami Kaido bike ride. I researched maid cafes when I was planning my trip last year and decided they were just too otaku-y for me and my partner Besides, a big part of the experience is supposed to be small-talking with the maids and you can't really do that if you don't speak Japanese

i went to a sushi maid cafe without knowing it was a sushi maid cafe because my friend and i wanted to check out the only sushi joint with all-female chefs. it turned out to be in akiba and had only male clientele except me and my friend. the sushi was good and reasonably priced but boy were we confused by the environment for a bit

You won't hear much Mandarin in places like Trader or Super Potato, but you will see lots of white guys.
