Not often but there will almost assuredly be a new set to coincide with the new beast tribe in 4.3.

The downside is warriors are more boring to play than they used to be. They are pretty good right now as far as usefulness as a tank goes. It's drk that are getting looked at for improvements (again).

"Improvements". Considering their track record with DRK, I'll be legitimately floored if it's anything more than something like:

Blood Price duration extended by 2 seconds. Dark Passenger potency increased from 100 to 110.

I would honestly be fine if the only change in DRK was Darkside getting an additional +5% damage. Most of the complaints about the job (from a performance standpoint, if people don't like the gameplay that's fine) are massively overblown.

Also, whats a good way to choose specialties? I picked WVR specialty awhile back since i figured it'd be good since I mostly play casters - but thinking about it now I'm rarely bothering with crafted DoW gear since tomestone or raid gear is rarely hard to get. WVR still seems like it might decent for making your own DoL/H gear though - is there anything I should pair with it?
At this moment, it's probably not the best idea to spring for a set of crafter gear, unless you want to be making your own stuff when 4.3 hits. If you know people who are into crafting, wait for the patch and ask them to make you some of the new gear in exchange for materials (if you don't, you're kinda boned unless they release some catch-up gear).

Specialties are a bit weird, and it really depends on the patch which ones are the best/most profitable. The most important thing it grants is a +20 Craftsmanship/+20 Control soul crystal, and access to a handful of specialist recipes, which usually get unlocked a patch or half-patch later anyway. You can switch them for a scrip fee, so it's not a big deal if you made the "wrong" choice. There are no real "wrong" choices though.

Except for CUL. Don't become a CUL specialist.

I main and love DRK and also think it's good but disagree, mathematically it's fine on the offense but it was over-pruned in the HW to SB transition, and lost a lot of core identity (Reprisal especially should have stayed a DRK exclusive). Other tweaks are needed to make it feel and flow a bit better; TBN is a fantastic ability and job defining but it comes too late so levelling it is a pain, Sole Survivor is useless, Shadow Wall is absurdly weak vs. Vengeance/Sentinel, there's no good reason Plunge is 5 yalms shorter than every other gap closer, etc.etc. It's far from as bad as people make out but it does need attention.

DRK isn’t bad or incapable of doing it’s job. It can tank any content in the game.

DRK’s problem is that it exists in the same game as PLD and WAR, both of whom make DRK in it’s current state look like a sad, stupid forsaken child.

So lore-appropriate, but I’d still like to see it brought up some.

Yeah, totally agreed. it's fine mathematically but it feels janky to play too often. I hope they don't just give it more numbers, I'd prefer to see some skills reworked and maybe some QoL things.

The thing DRK has going for it is The Blackest Night. It's arguably the best single ability in the game, and I hope devs don't touch it, except to possibly make it available earlier so DRK isn't so squishy when levelling.

For me they just need to make DRK more unique and fun, since SB I feel it plays the worst out of the 3 tanks.
Not sure about how the job balance is, main issue I'm having with the job is that it feels rather unrewarding and dull to play compared to both WAR and PLD.

To be quite honest I think it’s hard to say :v: There are a lot more mechanics to keep on top of. Byakko has like 2 mechanics vs train which is much more complicated. If you’ve raided before I heard train is a relatively easy fight.

sunken fleet posted:

Based on this I'm assuming you are familiar with early SB warrior but I'll drop a quick explanation for people who perhaps are not.

The core issue with Warrior was that so much of your DPS revolved around fitting as many cleaves as possible into your buff windows. Optimal play involved an extremely rigid procession of GCDs to make sure your gauge is at the right level at exactly the right time. You spent almost the entire time you're not in zerk preparing for the next zerk.

4.0 warrior had a super high skill ceiling, easily the highest of the three tanks. Worse, your DPS dropped like a rock the more you moved off the ideal rotation, either through player error or the thing you're fighting forcing movement or downtime. They probably could have made tweaks to how it worked to accommodate people who had difficulty with it, but what they actually ended up doing is shrugging and tossing nearly the entire concept.

Now, berserk is dead, long live inner release. IR is all you have now. During IR, every attack that normally uses beast gauge uses no beast gauge at all so you can drop 5 cleaves in the window without issue. In addition it forces a double crit on each attack. Instead of having to get all your ducks in a row before a buff window now you just hit one button and unleash the loving fury.

So on the one hand that's much better for warriors of all skill levels because the core contributor for DPS is now braindead easy. On the other hand people are (rightly, in my opinion) complaining that perhaps Warrior is now too braindead easy and not as satisfying to play.

Oh, and they called a complete mulligan on Shake it Off, admitting their original idea was pointless and stupid. It is now an AoE shield like Succor which powers up by consuming defensive buffs if they're active (IB, Vengeance, Raw Intuition) and gives Warrior some nice defensive party utility.

As far as exdr pubbies go, that's not even that bad. It actually used its AOE combo mostly correctly.

I mean, outside the lack of the Chaos Thrust combo, that looks pretty reasonable. And Full Thrust SHOULD be ahead of Wheeling/Fang and Claw if it's the only finisher he's using, since it does more damage then either of them AND he's hitting it every time. They even did their AoE rotation and popped Life of the Dragon, which beats the standard pubbie experience.

I mean, that's a bard there, Disembowel sure would have been a real nice thing to have, but as far as pubbies go that's like a 85% DPS Dragoon and I expect far, far worse out of my roulette buddies anymore.

That tank was doing insane DPS for an EXDR though. The group DPS puts it above the 95th percentile for all Hells Lid runs on FFlogs.

Edit: that's literally higher than any recorded parse for a tank in the dungeon. Seems like a timing issue. Point still stands that the tank was really really good.
