When future missions are done, they will exist in the present. Once the missions are in the present, all CIG has to do is build a game to do the missions in. The longer I look at this farce the more manual their every process appears to be. They sold this thing as a 100 star systems and 10 sextillion square miles to explore. Just listen to 2014 Chris talk about having a wide variety of procedural generated escort missions and factory shipments. So one would think they'd want to figure out a robust system for generating missions and NPCs to hand them out. But no, they're hand placing less than a dozen stationary NPCs for fetch quests that take you on the same static location every time. They're incompetent and have absolutely no mastery of the engine to do anything but manually fill out questgiver_npc_08's default fields before compile. Virtual Captain posted:The longer I look at this farce the more manual their every process appears to be. Yes. We made the joke about procedurally hand-crafted for their outposts because the claims really don't actually amount to much, other than the tech demo that they're demonstrating at the time. A less cynical person would suggest that they're developing in a modular fashion, but that tends to require a plan, and a roadmap that is more than a 'like to have', because there's a very specific critical path to certain parts of development. They slammed into that hurdle extremely early on with the idea that they could fully subcontract entire chunks of the coding, but failed to establish the style and interface guide that would have informed things like the actual scale of the game. There's a min-max game in the argumentation; We suggest that there isn't much to the 'game', the supporters simply point to all of things in isolation. That is in game, they will say, it might not work, be crippled or completely unbalanced, but it _appears_ to be there. We're looking for the viable product according to the promises made; they're defending the minimum viable product in the hope that they will get the product that we're looking for. We appear to be less taken with the illusion of progress, whereas the invested look at the disparate pieces and tell us that we're not seeing the big picture. cf It's like talking to a Retarded. Weirdly, this happens a lot with climate change because that's become a political debate whereas the actually science is pretty much just extrapolation of the laws of thermodynamics. People argue from a position of utter ignorance to preserve their viewpoint when there are _actual_ tests available. In SC terms; how many years to produce how many planets could be naively extended out to indicate that development time will take decades - sure, it's going to be skewed, but it'll come right *as they actually roll out promises*. The SCTracker is literally the best thing we have at the moment because it keeps CiG 'honest'. They're literally trying to kick things behind the curtain now.

So one would think they'd want to figure out a robust system for generating missions and NPCs to hand them out. It reminds me of the central conceit behind the project, which the backers have conveniently forgotten: the "you are controlling the spaceman who is controlling the ship" fakeout that is intended to convey that everything you see in game universe isn't faked in any way. This is what created the dreams of blowing a hole in an enemy ship and using special equipment to board the ship, knocking out life support and gravity control so you need your helmet and you float around as you masturbate furiously using your own hand which is controlling your dick which is failing to maintain an erection. All of it with no gaming fakery! It's all real and 2014 is getting stale and the power in the machines and the fidelity. Now that they've got their balls in a vice, it's not even as good as a game that cheats. They are literally implementing mobile phone gaming mechanics layered on top in the cheapest way possible. This isn't even a PC game any more.
