I'm watching this without having read the manga, and I'm enjoying it. I like how Asirpa shows a silly side around Retar in this episode. I get the impression that her super-serious attitude is partially a front. This is sort of confirmed when she says "So I keep my distance, so I don't get too attached." (Referring to bear cubs, but it's hard not to suspect she has a similar attitude toward Sugimoto).

So we got another CGI bear. But that's okay because we got this as well: By the way, Huchi asking for Sugimoto to marry Asirpa was loving weird. Did she say that on the manga? I really don't recall. Negostrike fucked around with this message at 18:49 on Apr 24, 2018 |

I don't think it was vague in the manga but nothing like it ever happens again that I can remember

"After that Funasaka lived what seemed to me a rich life, writing autobiography, running a bookstore, assisting local people in Palau Islands, etc. He’s also friends with the novelist Mishima Yukio, and the sword that Mishima used for seppuku was actually a gift from Funasaka." Wait what. "Mishima was active as a nationalist and founded his own right-wing militia, the Tatenokai. In 1970, he and three other members of his militia staged an attempted coup d'état when they seized control of a Japanese military base and took the commander hostage, then tried and failed to inspire a coup to restore the Emperor's pre-war powers. Mishima then committed ritual suicide by seppuku. The coup attempt became known as the "Mishima Incident". "The Mishima Prize was established in 1988 to honor his life and works." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yukio_Mishima Hmmm....

The not-quite-as-funny faces are improving, and the show hits a great many of the funny bits well. Even if it didn't, I think this story, in a vacuum, is strong enough to pull even the most mediocre of adaptations up. E: if i have one complaint, it's that I like Sutimoto the Immortal better as a name. Sounds so much better when yelled at the top of one's lungs. E2: someone make a gif of Retar's face watching the horse meat. Rodenthar Drothman fucked around with this message at 03:00 on May 13, 2018 |

A few H artists made the transition well to more mainstream stuff. Maybe/Meibii made the transition better with Dusk Maiden of Amnesia and one of his latest stories, The Tale of the Wedding Rings (which is actually being translated officially by Crunchyroll ) is probably my favorite serious "Isekai" manga/novel.
