There's not really much leverage that we Extremely Online People have over Maher, any more than we have over Reid. We can bitch about them both (and we have!), but that's kind of about it. I think most/all of us would be thrilled if both of them were fired. If Reid gets fired but Maher doesn't, that's not fair, and it's almost certainly a function of racism. But that doesn't mean she doesn't deserve to get fired, and I really hope she does.

And then 10 years later the fruits of this unknown hacker's plan finally come to fruition and they can look them up in the archive and own her with them.

The stuff she said is one thing. People's views change over time and that was a long time ago. No problem with her coming out and saying that (even if some of the stuff she said was horrendous). But lying about it and trying to throw a non-profit under the bus throws her journalistic integrity into question. It shows she's willing to lie and falsely accuse people of things they didn't do. Someone like that should not be employed by any news outlet. Maher has always been a smug shithead. But his actions don't taint a news organization, just a premium cable channel.

I think even grown adults have the ability to evolve and form better ideas as time goes on. If someone's actions and words show that they've genuinely grown and don't agree with their past bad ideas then you should leave room to believe that. Unless you just don't think people can grow. Which begs the question of how smart you thought you were when you were 18. But Reid clearly isn't doing a good job cleaning up, owning her bad ideas, and proving that they're in her past.
