If you're browsing fanart at work or visibly in public you kinda deserve what you get. Like, let's not post explicit loli moe versions of Thomas the Tank Engine receiving a rimjob from the ghost of Robbie Rotten while Shadow the Hedgehog watches with acute anticipation, but the fun of fanart threads comes mostly from the batshit insane stuff like the oft-posted duel between Tuxedo Sideshow Bob and Vampire Philip J. Fry for the hand of Gothloli Bart Simpson as well as the more horrifying Deviantart stuff. Instead the fanart thread was basically just milquetoast anime girl pictures and Captain Invictus, and as much as I dislike him I won't bitch about his Undertale fetish because that's why god gave us the ignore button. Either way, we have the Deviantart thread in GBS which would be perfect if it had a little more traffic.

It seems to me that you (General you) know how certain threads are going to go based on what they are. If a thread seems like it’s probably going to attract a lot of pedophiles it’s probably best to not make it in the first place rather than constantly watching it or putting a shitload of rules in it.

In the interests of full disclosure I’m guessing it was drawings of young girls that got the fan art thread closed, I did not actually go in the thread. I apologize if my uneducated guess that the sexual objectification of young girls was not the reason it closed.

Yeah that's basically why. The original fanart thread was from GBS I think and was supposed to be a catchall for weird and cool fanart. The problem with that is it basically turns into that meme about someone requesting fanart of Yoshi laying eggs. So when it was rebooted I figured getting rid of the "weird" half of the title/aim and putting in rules to avoid massive dumps (not just from Invictus) would lead lead to an easier to read thread with just fun and cool fanart. It worked for a while I guess but it just gets too difficult to moderate because the weird stuff isn't a line from sfw to nswf it's a loving spaghetti bowl. Then any action or inaction taken becomes a tacit endorsement or condemnation to varying posters until the whole thread is radioactive.

I liked the new rules for the last fanart thread and if a new one is opened I think it ought to be pictures only, linked to the original source, possibly with allowances to explain (non-creepy, non-gross) context. I think people know when something is spaghetti noodle inappropriate and general internet attitudes have allowed mental gymnastics to get a pass far too often than not. What’s annoying is this will be remembered on SA as “lol CI got the thread closed because Undertale” instead of “mods didn’t want to yet again be the sole arbitrators of what is/n’t borderline CP.”

I didn't follow the bad fan art threads for very long because they were just so bad. Not even dipping my toe in that pool again, personally. Granted I think some of it was caused by mental illness. So after I read about it here, I went and checked out that thread; there were post after post of Undertale fanart and then arguments of why Undertale fanart is better than anime fanart. I think that just sums it all up right there.
