SirPhoebos posted:I recently bought a Nintendo Switch and it looked like the eSHOP was surprisingly sparse on classic titles. Is there something I'm missing? There's no "virtual console" as there is on Wii U and 3DS, but there are still a lot of classic titles on there. Other companies have classics available, mainly Hamster's Arcade Archives, and recently Johnny Turbo's Arcade titles. Hamster has a few Nintendo titles in their library. There are also a handful of solid remakes, such as Blaster Master Zero and Wonderboy: the Dragon's Trap. There are vague plans for a "classic game selection" that'll be offered with the Switch's online subscription plan when it launches later this year. At the moment it looks like it'll be a selection of NES titles with online play features. Manky fucked around with this message at 18:48 on Apr 25, 2018 |

I watched the trailer last night and it seems like it might be silly fun. Plus when you play it, you can pretend you have a streaming service on your Switch. Oh, and apparently it's "from the writer of Sherlock Holmes (2009 film)".

Okay, I saw an advertisement for that when I was setting up my Switch, but couldn't find any further link to it. Is this something that's coming later then? EDIT: oh it's on the first post of the new page, nvm.

There's a ridiculously small amount of decent video footage of it, so this Classic Game Room review will have to do, but it explains the game quite well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-r-UcMba21s Worst part is, I lost my old DSi that had it and couldn't transfer it to my 3DS for posterity, it was a very fun game that was huge in scope

Nintendo sent me a birthday coupon for 30% off select digital games. Only one I’m interested in is Metroid: Samus Returns. I didn’t bother getting it when it first came out cause I haven’t turned on my New 3DS in a year or so, ever since the Switch came out. Is this worth getting at $27.99? Could they maybe port it to Switch some day?

I don't think there have been any 3DS ports to date so idk. It's pretty good, though it has some issues imo with overemphasizing the original mechanics and powerups to the point that it mucks up the pacing for a good chunk of the game.

That game leans very heavily on the second screen, porting it to the Switch would require them to rework some fundamental aspects of the UI, and I’d be surprised if they were willing to invest that much effort into it. (And I have no idea if they used assets that were high quality enough to look good on a 720p display.) I got it as an impulse purchase on sale for $20 a while back, I thought it was worth it - especially since I sold it for a tad more than that on eBay after I finished my playthrough.

I’m honestly hoping the dual screen concept gets phased out of all Nintendo hardware going forward to prevent porting issues like that. As for the game, I’ll think about it. I really don’t want to fire up my 3DS unless it’s mind blowing. I’m having way more fun with the Switch.

I wouldn't be surprised if in 4 years its in there or something but not any time soon. Any ways Samus Returns is fun, I enjoyed it enough to play it twice but it definitely doesn't have the lasting appeal for me that most other Metroids have. Still, fine is better than non-existence so I was happy

You haven't tilted your switch while playing Zelda and felt the breeze on your face? Breath of hot air, more like it. Most 3d games seem to have that effect. I can think of possible ways to design around the issue, though.
