So far I've completed Vvardenfall, Orsinium, and started the Dark Brotherhood chain but I'm not sure where I left off in that. Level 33 or so. Any suggestions on what's a cool place to hit up for quests? I don't know where I want to go next

Theives Guild is a lot of fun, Imperial City is good, Clockwork City probably. Picking a random spot on the world map and dropping in to do the nearest town/city questline is oddly liberating and chill too even if the actual quests and writing aren't quite up to the more recent DLC stuff

I usually do clockwork city relatively early since every part of the main quest is a skill point and the last quest grants a 150% exp scroll.

For my first character it was pre-morrowind so I did the game's main quest (the molag bal stuff) and my faction's storyline. You can always find out your faction's starting zone and get started on that.

Is there a recommended way to spend your first CP for a magika sorc? I'm at about 80cp and I've been picking random stuff that looks good like magicka regen, elemental damage and the phys, poison and disease resist one.

Look up Alcast's guides for CP allotment. You can easily proportion the amounts he recommends to suit your current points.

I figured seeing as I've been playing this again recently I should hook up with goons again - @AlethK. I'm still in Daggerfall Goons and Congenital Mudcrabs we had set up from release which seem pretty much abandoned now.

I've started to pick a zone that I want to 100% complete Skyshards on with the explicit intention to go off the beaten path and complete anything along the way between Skyshards. It's been a surprisingly fun few days and feels like a fairly organic thing to do within the game world. This is pretty much how I played all the other Elder Scrolls games too. :)

Is there a particular reason to do the Mage's Guild, or is it like a "there's no reason not to" kind of thing?

I picked up the Persuasion skill but that's it. Haven't done a single thing for the guild other than grab the books I've come across.

It's largely build dependent. A number of magicka DPS builds utilize the ultimate, and it's very popular for PvP since it's an AOE hard knock down/stun. Plenty of tank builds also use skills throughout the tree (mostly Equilibrium for sustain and Volcanic Rune as a poor man's CC).

For magic characters, magelight can be useful (for its passive, not because of hidden enemies)

The questline is fairly entertaining for Sheogorath hassling and hazing a stuck-up Wizard after stealing his island(!!!). Some people think he's still too MONKEY CHEESE but I felt the writers did a good job of showing him as sly and manipulative under a guise of 'so random, so whacky lol!' and meeting his uncle is cool.

As for the lorebooks, it's dumb and annoying but meteor owns and I dont regret taking the time and effort to be able to drop big loving rocks on people's heads

also here's a stupid take

Sheogorath is great because he seems to deliberately do the "monkey cheese" thing in order to get people not to take him seriously. Then you hear about Uncle Leo and realize that he is not only true to his namesake but also really dangerous

The Mage's Guild questline gets you (I forget if it's 2 or 3) extra skill points if you make the evil choice at the end. That plus the Master Wizard title, one of the better blue dyes, and as with Fighters' Guild, there are crafting stations for certain equipment sets that you can only access by completing the quest chain. It's definitely worth doing.

That's exactly how I feel. His nonsense is a smokescreen so that people underestimate him. You hear "God of Madness" and he goes on about cheese and oh, no real threat. Then he fucks them over big time and welp, outsmarted by the cheese man.

I do like that he is actually dangerous and manipulative, but his motives are still insane. Lots of Daedra want to take over the world or destroy it, and he has less severe ambitions than that, and more "All that work and THAT'S your plan?" Plus he really seems to enjoy dunking on a stuffy wizard ghost, and that's always fun to watch.

What are dungeons like at endgame? I'm at level 24 right now and the dungeons I've tried are presumably the easy stuff to get you into the game. It's mostly just a bunch of people using their AOE abilities to mow stuff down. I'm leveling a templar so I alternate between doing damage and healing. I don't want to get into bad habits from doing to easy stuff, so I just want to know what I should prepare for later.

Synthwave Crusader

Only the veteran DLC dungeons provide a real challenge at endgame and that's usually only if you want the skins/titles involved. Main thing to worry about in endgame healing is to provide support and sustain to your group.

I think I might gently caress around and try this game.

Do we have much presence on xbox?

If I just really liked skyrim and plan to solo most of the time, how hosed am I?

I see a lot of folks mixing armor pieces and dyes and all that, does anyone know how to make something that looks close to how the thieves guild armor in skyrim looks? I saw that someone pulled off a halfway decent nightingale look and it got me thinking.
This is also a terrible idea, isn't it?

Im not allergic to groups or anything, i just have a weird irl schedule and might only get to play a few hours in the middle of the night a couple nights a week, and having to depend on others (or have them depending on me) seems like a bad idea.

The only thing you really have to coordinate is high-level stuff, otherwise just do your daily random dungeon, it takes like 20 minutes.

This was basically me when I started, and even if you literally never group there's hundreds of hours of great content you can do by yourself. Also, if you're coming from something like WoW the (normal, non-dlc) dungeons/groups in this are way way more friendly to casuals. Don't worry about "dragging down your group" or getting poo poo on because you can't commit an hour+ to pushing through a dungeon. Like FactsAreUseless mentioned most can be done in like 20-30 minutes on normal and can still give you end-game gear (except monster helmets), so I think they're great end game content for super casual players.

Even if you want to do vet dungeons, just know the basics about your class/role and let your group know if you don't know about the boss fights. I've found people in this to be pretty nice about explaining any tricky mechanics, especially when you're in a goon group.

Summary: You should try this game.

All of this. I mean, I've met one or two shitheads but generally this is the friendliest mmo community I;ve seen plus you can do so much just on your own and get help for the few bits you can't. One of the advantages of being a bit of an overlooked game maybe? Generally now that I'm playing this a lot I get a little bit caremad that more people aren't playing this and talking about it. It seriously owns.

Me and a random stranger helped each other out in a delve like a week ago, and now we're like actual friends and chat on steam when we're not in game... I mean this is purely anecdotal, it's one data point and maybe not representative of the entire community, but I gotta say I've played a lot of MMOs and that's not a thing that's happened often.

There’s a Thieves Guild costume that you get from doing the Thieves Guild questline, IIRC. It’s not identical to the guild armor from Skyrim but pretty close.

Actual thieves guild style armor isn't that close to Skyrim thieves guild armor (not sure if anything has that kind of particular look but maybe I'll fiddle around and try and get close) but it is really rad and sturdy looking leather armor

I've actually made a handful of friends in this game that I didn't have previously. Outside of any of the retards that post on the official forums, the community overall is pretty good. I think I have like 2-3 people on my ignore list that were absolute shitheads.

Outside of one dungeon I can think of. (I think its some tower in the pvp zone, and everybody hates it anyway) the dungeons are friendly to pretty much everyone at all levels of play. They are lots of fun. By the time you get to vet dungeon level, you'll be more than prepared because its more of playing your class in a smart way as opposed to pushing out every single drop of invisible numbers you can. I'd say it's even friendly to tanks and healers nowadays so don't be afraid to try those roles too.

Shitheads are kinda rare in this game. Most quit long ago or are too busy posting on the forums about how bad everyone besides themselves are at playing. Or talking poo poo on each others PVP streams on Twitch.

There's definitely the usual idiots in zone chat, but that will be true in any MMO ever, and it's not at Vanilla WoW Barrens Chat levels or anything.

Most people I encounter are either friendly or utterly silent, never really rude. I had a fun experience in cyrodiil (PVP zone) where I was doing a delve for a skyshard, found an enemy player, and we both went out of our way to avoid hitting each other with AoEs or anything. We both got our shard, got to the delve exit, threw each other a single friendly light attack, and left :3:

I can't comment on groups since I really only group with goons, but sometimes we take on a pubbie for our fourth and they've never been assholes - some of them are pretty bad at playing, but at least they're not lovely about it. And goons have been extremely helpful to me in-game, which inspires me to try to be helpful back, so we have a good little community. Unfortunately you said you'll play on Xbox, which means we won't be playing together. It might still be helpful for you to join the goon discord though, since you'll get more detailed answers about in-game stuff on there.
