I played against a Thrall - Kaelthas - Cain team today in Hero League as Diablo and he seemed really good, at least with those heroes. The giant root into fel infused flamestrike was wrecking us.

Did the latest patch cause this box to pop up for them as well or is this just a me problem? https://i.imgur.com/6xicLtk.png I've never seen this box before, its been happening since the last patch, and this box stays there for maybe 10 seconds before the game actually launches, before launching HotS was usually instant. Does anyone else experience this "Box" all of a sudden?

Yes he is. It will be interesting to see how they fix him too because almost all of his talents in each tier are can be some flavor of ridiculous. Level 4 is a good example. Rejuv and shielding are both solid and go really well with bottomless flask. Free mana restore and shielding at 20. If you pick ruby though you poo poo out full heals once you get perfect gems. Once horadric in a team fight can be a full heal on most of your team.

How tough is he to single out? I know his passive is deliberately meant to make that hard, but it didn't look that much on paper? I guess his insane heals make it harder than it looks?

From what I've seen you dive Cain and then you're stuck inside a big triangle. And then you get dogpiled and die. Sometimes you are able to kill Cain in this process.

His comment only really matters for melee heroes which aren't named Zeratul. So there's this little graphical issue I am now noticing with the game, I figured it was because of the new NVIDIA drivers I downloaded "397.31" because it was the first game of HotS I played with the new drivers I started noticing it, but after looking into it more I've seen two other mentions of it, they also used different drivers, so is this just a Blizzard bug from the latest Deckard patch? I was going to make a bug report for NVIDIA so they can fix, but if it's not them...

Man, Infest seems really fuckin good now. Like it was good before but suddenly even at level 1 if you imprudently step into Zagara's minion wave your health goes down fast. I had a game playing her on Cursed Hollow and her ability to bully people and push lanes down seems insanely better than before, we snowballed hard even against a pretty solid teamcomp (Diablo, Thrall, Falstad for global, Lucio, and Kel'Thuzad).

I'd guess part of the reason these things work is because the people doing them aren't everyday schlubs. The only thing these dumb things prove is that if you're way better than your opponents, you will ruin dozens of games for people on your way up and the system "works."

Like any conquered people, those left in the wake of ladder climbing smurfs should feel honored for being given a glimpse of what true culture / skill really is. Getting your teeth kicked in by a pro is akin to being conquered by Rome and then gaining infrastructure and philosophy, or like being liberated by the US and gifted western democracy

The whole point of these bronze-to-whatever climbs is to demonstrate that "Elo hell" is bullshit, simply playing games in whatever ladder rank you're stuck at isn't exerting a gravitational pull keeping you, a temporarily embarrassed grandmaster, down. If you aren't, in fact, way better than your opponents then congratulations, you're actually where you belong.

Except it doesn't prove that? You can be better than the people you're matched with but not good enough to carry an entire team to victory. Yes, a person who is better than where they're placed will eventually get out of there over time, but the speed at which it happens is slow enough that it can get frustrating for people. The question of ELO hell is whether or not you should have to be way better than who you're getting matchmade with to rise in ranks. All putting a GM in the silver league does is show that a GM should not be playing in silver league.

pyromance posted:Except it doesn't prove that? The core conceit of the Elo Hell argument is that low ladder ranks are a gravitational black hole of suck that drags skillful players down below the level they should be at, that's the entire foundation of the premise. "I know I'm good enough to be [HIGHER RANK] but my lovely [LOWER RANK] teammates are keeping me down and there's literally no way I can get out of here, I'm stuck because everyone else I play with sucks so bad." Except somehow when a person who actually doesn't belong in the lower ranks demonstrates that yeah, if you're actually good then you won't be stuck in silver or whatever, that suddenly doesn't count because they're too good which doesn't prove anything because ??????????????????

Except a GM in bronze just proves that a GM should not be in bronze. No loving poo poo? It does nothing to show what a silver player in bronze would be capable of doing, or even a gold, in the same situation. So how does a GM playing like 6 leagues below them prove that the system is fine? It's literally just ruining the play experience of at least 5 people. And yes, I realize that the common factor in all your losses is yourself, so focus on what you can change and stop blaming teammates. I just don't see how that experiment proves a drat thing about how well the promotion system works in reality, because it's a situation that is about as far away from reality as will ever happen.

It does nothing to show what a silver player in bronze would be capable of doing, or even a gold, in the same situation. Dude, people literally argue that if you're stuck in bronze you can never escape no matter what, I've seen people do this. The perception of lower ranks isn't "well you can get out but it'll be a slog I guess," it's "I don't belong here loving Blizzard, gg to all my idiot teammates holding me down forever!" What this proves is that no, actually that's bullshit, which is a thing that to this day people don't seem to get. You think the guy's an rear end in a top hat, whatever, people will stop doing these bronze-to-X runs when people stop believing that they're totally diamond league players and it's everyone else's fault that they're stuck in silver. I think it's real weird personally how everyone always divides the playerbase between "oh these players are super godlike and so far away from reality that it can never be comparable to anyone" and "everybody else," like people are just born with inherent Grandmaster Video Game Genes or something. If you want to climb fast, I dunno, get way better? It seems pretty obvious but a bunch of people seem to think it's this impossible hurdle (except for all the high ranked players for some inexplicable reason).
