Be glad it's just the battery. My Pixel 1 was dead after the Feb update.

Hmm I haven't noticed the issue with my pixel 1 (not-XL), and I just got the update last week. I wonder if it's display-related? Battery life is murky enough that it's hard to say for sure one way or another, but it's night time now and I'm at 70% after using it a good bit.

Yup, one of the first things I checked. I don't install apps often and I don't really have any to begin with, so I kinda ruled that out.

My Nexus 5x is probably dying... if I put my sim in an iPhone SE should I have any issues in Europe? Not that I go often (like once a year), but having data and calling available is a huge deal for me while there.

I'm on Fi with a Nexus 6P (since January 2017), and I kind of get the sense that I am on borrowed time, based on other folks' stories of batteries dying and replacements unavailable/expensive. Mine seems to be fine, if buggy and slow, but I am considering jumping on the Moto x4 deal Google has right now. Anyone made the switch in that direction? Is it worth it for $250? I kind of want to downgrade (especially in price), so I'm not keen on the Pixel, but also want something relatively reliable for the next few years, if that is even possible.

When the deal popped up, I sold my recently RMI'd 6P on Swappa for $200 and bought the x4. So far, my major gripe is with camera quality, it's noticeably worse in almost every condition. In other ways -- speed, responsiveness, moto gestures, reliability, BATTERY LIFE -- it's so much better than the 6P. Holy poo poo the battery is long-lasting. Considering I ended up paying $50 after the sale of the 6P, overall I'm happy.

If you end up having issues with your 6P, you may still be able to get a free Pixel upgrade. There were known issues with the 6P and Google *was* just swapping them out if you called or chatted in about it. Not sure if they still are but it's worth a shot.

Rebooting never helped my x4 much, but I did a factory reset a couple nights ago and that seems to have reclaimed some of the battery life even after reinstalling most of my apps. Runs noticeably faster and smoother, as well. Turning off 'Mobile Data Always Active' in developer options also helped a lot, because apparently that's turned on by default now.

I swapped it out with a TQTHL battery I'd gotten on ebay. I've been using it since January and it's still going strong although I plan on upgrading early next year because Google is going to stop all but security support in October.

It's a bit beyond the scope of this thread, but I think that even though this administration is probably more merger friendly overall, you never know if Trump will try to throw a wrench in the works. He's doing it to the AT&T merger because he hates CNN, and he's doing the metals tariffs because he's paranoid about scheming Chinamen. One tack I could see him easily taking here would be a rah rah "America First" thing where he says both Sprint and T-Mo are obviously foreign companies trying to reduce competition for hardworking Americans. On the other hand he could approve it because he thinks it will screw over CNN somehow. Basically my point is to remember that Trump is a moron and almost nothing is ever a sure thing with him.

Is there a magic word for Fi support that get's you to somebody who has the authority to do anything? My wife's Pixel has the standard microphone issue (for which there is a class action lawsuit). My wife started up a Fi support ticket and they've escalated it to "supervisors," "specialist teams," and the "concern team." She has been getting an email every day saying they are "working on the issue," despite them already having all the information (and not having the actual phone).; This has been going on for 40 days. We've both tried chatting with support several times to no avail. It's a high bar to clear, but this may be the single worst customer service experience I've ever dealt with.
|
# ? Apr 30, 2018 17:52 |
Get on support chat/phone/whatever and don't budge until they actually do something. I've had my best results with them just going in, laying out the problem and what needs to happen, and not taking anything less for an answer. Alternately, there's a dude on reddit that has some sort of undisclosed in with Fi that can sometimes help: https://www.reddit.com/r/ProjectFi/comments/72dcgh/reddit_request_20_a_better_way_to_escalate_issues/

I recently updated my Fi 6p to a Pixel 2 XL when they had the sale (I got $100 for the 6p, which was decent enough, probably could have done better but Google was zero hassle) and it's the bee's knees. And the camera is stupid good. Going on 3 years now with Fi and love it. My greatest fear is Google decides to kill it one day. I use the second sim option in my iPad when travelling and the combo is just the best. If you travel overseas a lot Fi is the poo poo in my experience.

The charging port failed 3/17 and google replaced it with a refurb. The microphone started acting up 2/18. So the phone is outside of the original 1 year warranty, and (now) more than a year past when she received the refurb. The problem is that Google knew about the faulty microphones when they shipped the bad phone to my wife. I don't exactly know the details of how the warranties/refurb replacements/recalls/etc... all play with each other. Technically maybe Google isn't legally responsible for this, but it's pretty shady.

I'm having Pixel 2 issues with the speaker and, according to Pixel support, the RMAs are are all handled by the shipping team at Google. They usually just ship out whatever I guess because I asked for a NEW phone, not a refurb that has its own issues. But they said it's up to the shipping team...which just decided to give me a refurbished phone again while claiming really hard that refurbs are as good as new devices. But then my card got constantly declined, the RMA link they keep sending isn't working, and Google blamed my bank for the declines when I physically went to the bank to see what was up and they said it's on Google as they've never declined anything. So I don't know what's up, really.

Is there a way to format my phone when the screen doesn't work? I dropped my phone and the screen just straight up refuses to turn on, though the phone still works with my voice commands. I'm sending it in for a replacement, but I have no way to format the phone that I can tell. Is there a way I can do it from my computer? Or can I use a voice command to connect my phone to my Chromecast so I can see what I'm doing? Edit: Nevermind! I'm an idiot and forgot that I can just remotely erase it through Google. Been a project fi user since they launched in 2015 with the 6p and its finally dying. Battery only holds less than third of its original capacity. As I'm sure you know Google's awesome selection of phones right now on the google store is the pixel 2 and the pixel 2 xl. Picked up the 2 xl. Hopefully I will continue to dodge the problems I see frequently in this thread. Oh and for my well preserved 6p absent of any screen damage I am getting like 60 bucks. I am getting that free google home mini and $100 credit though. Blackchamber fucked around with this message at 05:41 on May 9, 2018 |
