I agree, so i googled the last time someone said the rescue group have their pet a vasectomy and, in the US at least, this is not a thing. It would also be far more invasive for cats. As it is, as long as the testicles are where they are supposed to be, feline castrations are very quick with very little risk of infection. The sac is left intact* and I have seen one cat whose sac had not shrunk so it looked like he still had his balls, even though it was completely empty when the vet poked at it during its examination. Maybe that's what happened to Knee's cat. * after kitty is anesthetised, the vet makes a little incision, pushes a testicle out of that incision, pulls it out a little further, then cuts it off of the vas deferens. Dog neuters are more invasive.
