Payday plot has spun so wildly away from what I expected, holy poo poo. Y'all see the tweet that points out Dentist was in a bunch of frames of The Diamond trailer? Are we dealing with a loving supernatural entity? Are the artifacts tied to him somehow? Is this the same universe as Castlevania 2, and the artifacts are Dracula's body parts? Where does The Hamburgler fit in?

Are we dealing with a loving supernatural entity? Are the artifacts tied to him somehow? Is this the same universe as Castlevania 2, and the artifacts are Dracula's body parts? Where does The Hamburgler fit in? oh god, where to begin...OK, short version. Once upon a time there was a Thing of Power. It was used by an alliance of three kings. The Thing of Power made these three basically immortal superbeings, along with other benefits. They had an alliance to share the Thing. This alliance was called "Kataru". (Kataru literally means "alliance" in ancient sumerian, to get an idea of how old these guys are). Kataru ruled the world-basically they were the illuminati on steroids. Karatu had, like, interns, or pages, or something, which were called "Watchers". One of the Watchers, a guy named Baldwin, tried to steal the Thing in about 1814. They failed, and were disappeared. This mess set off a power stuggle that caused Kataru to collapse- the Thing got sealed away, the kings split up and started stealing and hiding each other's junk like it was a bad breakup. One of the Kings came out mostly on top of this struggle, and he was still immortal, but he didn't have access to the Thing, and some of the other powerful artifacts used to access the Thing. This guy effectively took over Kataru and used it to seek out the other artifacts and engage in an extended secret conflict with the other group members. It looks like Kataru consists of the following things: King 1: "Doctor King", aka the Dentist. Associated with that box with the eye of providence/pyramid on it, and The Diamond, which is also called the Demon Star. The king who took over Kataru? That's the Dentist. Basically every antagonist group in the game, starting with Murkywater and including Gensec and the Garnet Group, seem to be working for him. He's apparently all-powerful, especially since we retrieved his box for him from the golden grin casino. He's also got the feds working for him at this point. King 2: "King Elephant", no prizes for guessing his identity. Associated with a box with a bird's flight trail on it (but the bird is tiny, the whole thing looks like an abstract snake), and the Police Star. It looks like the Elephant was trying to coach Bain to be a sort of new generation of Watcher, maybe. Whatever his plan was, it's largely fallen apart with Bain gone and with McKendrick having turned on him. It looks likely that he was the reason that the Diamond was in a museum, and the Dentist's Loot was in the Golden Grin. (for the record, a bunch of crossover heists that have us hitting Murkywater were originally going to be hitting the company for the Elephant.) King 3: "Scribe King", identity unknown. Associated with a box with a double triangle thing on it, and the "Fate Star". Might have gotten killed in the civil war, might be hidden, might be Bain. No one's sure. The thing we got from Brooklyn Bank is the "Amulet of the Perseids", which seems to also be important. A Kataru guy named Lyndenhurst gave it to Duke's ancestor to hide shortly before getting murdered in 1905. We're going for the Thing. The Thing may or may not trigger the apocalypse. We have all three of the Kings' boxes (whatever those are), and it seems like the Dentist has at least one of the three "stars", and, well, Bain. And the police. And Kento. Did I mention Kento appears to be running Murkywater for the Dentist? well, he is. fa-GYO posted:The Payday gang puts a drill on the arc of the covenant. You joke, but in this last heist you can literally open the ark of the covenant to find one of these boxes in it. Discendo Vox fucked around with this message at 21:30 on Apr 30, 2018 |

I like how we've gone for years with the story basically being irrelevant and then torrents of it coming at once.

Personally I'm not a particular fan of the overall plot and where it's going. It's sounding more and more like the dumber parts of Assassin's Creed. I'm here for bank robbing, cop killing and international terrorism, not demonic entities and alien conspiracy theories.

Hardcore Henry is tied to Payday 2, and that's a movie where the villain is a psychic jerkwad with an army of super-clones with different personalities, i think the game started getting stupid a while ago also jacket being in payday 2. dunno if thats canon though

If RAID was a better game we wouldn't have all of this. While it's somewhat amusing to see a game originally focused on robbing banks and getting rich turn into a modern day fairytale about immortals and mysticism, support for Payday 2 was supposed to end in 2017. It just keeps being extended because Overkill has proved incapable of making a successor title that can earn them as much. They're milking this franchise for all it's worth, and since there can only be so many bank heists before it gets a bit stale, we're getting all this illuminati crap. Not that I really mind so long as we continue to get fun new heists and weapons out of it.

I kinda wish that there's no Payday 3, cause I feel like Payday 2 exhausted it's material. It's been so long and so much has happened, Payday 3 will certainly feel like a step backwards.

By virtue of almost definitely losing all the Collab characters, it absolutely will be. I'm interested, for sure, I've been with these fuckers since the first game was announced, but everything will feel so empty and wrong without Jimmy.

"Ok crew we need one more magic amulet, but here's the problem.... It's on the moon. See, they used it as a part on the original lander module. Yeah I know, but we gotta get it back. Guys, I think Vlad has some connections...." And then we loot the flag. Can Vlad be the scribe king? I want him busting in during the final confrontation with that fur coat and glasses.
|
# ? May 1, 2018 07:06 |

And then watch as once all is said and done we straight unlock Vlad. Like we end the plot somehow, and the last one to come out on top is a coked-up Vlad going "MAN THIS poo poo IS STUPID, I'MMA HELP YOU ASSHOLES FIX IT" This is prob after we somehow destroy Elephant and Dentist via magic poo poo.

Payday 3 would be cool but it would need basically completely new mechanics. Ditch all the existing ones and come up with something new. Ditch the entire stealth system and replace it with something else. Imagine the same movie with a different director, or even different cast.

The many added characters, the Butcher and Kento probably weren't, Locke wasn't, and it's possible that the Dentist and the Elephant were originally the same character, but Murkywater, Kataru and the boxes and the alchemy symbols and a bunch of the specific heists? All intended. A lot of the core material is heavily reworked from cut stuff that was going to run in payday 1. Discendo Vox fucked around with this message at 19:58 on May 1, 2018 |
