With a suppressor, you have to re-adjust the sights on a weapon to account for the new trajectory, and also suppressors don't work very well on revolvers because they have a gap between the cylinder and the barrel, so you end up having a bunch of noise and flash seep out of the gap before the gases even hit the suppressor.

Unless you're using the very unusual Nagant Model 1895. It has a gas seal that, well, seals the gap you were talking about. They're I think the only revolver that could utilize a silencer properly.

So is British "white cider" just malt liquor with a splash of apple? Or is it just water, apple juice, and sugar-based industrial ethanol? Some other article I was reading said something about "white cider" being made from the waste products of brewing, so is it like "pommace" where you just pour water into the leavings you've already made stuff out of, and then make booze out of that like with grappa?

From what I can find it's essentially a pommace thing, distill the last bit of alcohol out of the apple pulp and then water it down and add some cheap imported apple concentrate to punch it up.

There's also Buckfast Tonic Wine, which is basically a bottle of the E. & J. Gallo Brother's finest bumwine with about the same caffeine-per-volume as a cup of strong coffee. IIRC there was a study that found that in alcohol-related assaults in Scotland something like 40% of perpetrators had consumed Buckfast beforehand.

Or you can enclose the entire cylinder with a secondary baffle to catch the gas, which is a fairly involved work of machining but has been done before by a German gunsmith with some S&W Model 625 revolvers for a SWAT team.

On one hand we could fix this by moving tax money where it's needed. In the other hand we could use the budget to buy more tanks for the army while they literally beg us not to.

That's why I phrased things like I did. I tend to read a shitload of true crime stuff, probably more than what most would consider healthy and while I've yet to come across a female serial killer having a sex motive, I can't rule it out just because I haven't read it yet. Off the top of my head, Karla Homolka's probably the best fit for having a sex motive going from what I've read on the case.

I've been getting super into AMC's The Terror lately, but having spoiled the ending to the novel it's based on for myself, I've decided I'd much rather read some non-fiction about the incident.

I've seen a few posts in here about The Lost Franklin Expedition, and the ships and crews involved, but was wondering what specific suggestions the thread had. I feel like I've heard good things about The Man Who Ate His Boots in here, and I know it's broader than just the Franklin expedition. How about that one?

One of the big problems with solving rapes isn't identifying who did it - it's proving that it was non-consensual to a court of law and jury, often years later.

So until societal views on consent change, there won't be much progress there, sadly.

If men had uteruses they'd be called duderuses.
Most people who know just a tad about Richard Burton know that he drank. A lot. But I hadn't realized how much until reading this biography.

When he had an operation to repair arthritis, it was discovered his spine was completely covered in crystalized alcohol.

quote:

At rehearsals, Burton's Thermos flask would contain whisky: "He'd pour it into a plastic cup and blow on it, pretending it was hot tea," reports Michael Munn. Once, with Lee Marvin, he drank 17 consecutive dry Martinis.

Munn knew his subject, and says he witnessed him rolling around in spasms from epileptic fits -- which Burton refused to tell the doctors about. Surely these were alcoholic seizures? When Burton was operated on for arthritis, his spinal column was coated with crystallised alcohol. His kidneys were shot, his liver cirrhotic, there were ulcers, and he couldn't remember his lines. By the time he died of a haemorrhage in 1984, aged 58, he looked about 100. Five packets of cigarettes a day hadn't helped.

Attention! Something tremendous has happened!
Body Found In Bathroom Wall At Core Shopping Centre In Calgary

quote:

CALGARY — A man's body was extracted from inside a wall of a women's washroom in a busy downtown Calgary mall on Monday, but police said they did not suspect foul play.

The discovery was made about 9:30 a.m. by a maintenance worker who was called in to fix a toilet that wouldn't flush on the fourth floor of The Core Shopping Centre, said police spokeswoman Emma Poole.

"If you were to look at the toilet, there's a panel behind it, so that when people move, it would automatically flush,'' she said. "When they removed that panel, they found a deceased person behind that wall.''

During the busy lunch hour, people dined metres away from the washroom, which had a yellow caution ribbon strung across the entrance. A security guard directed women to another washroom a floor below, but the men's and family washrooms were still accessible.

The speculation is that he fell from above through a vent and died in the wall somehow.

I remember a documentary video that I think was from the UK and god if I can remember where to find it but they found a part behind a wall in a men’s bathroom where a dude had fashioned a crude cut out behind the urinal and was getting peed on wearing like a snorkel or something and that’s the first thing I thought of. One of the owners like opened up some obscure back door and he ran out covered in piss and I really hope this isn’t a fever dream I had

Depends on his personality. Maybe he's the type who's been itching to talk about his crimes for years and now that he has an outlet it'll all just come pouring out of him. He could also be the type that recognizes how badly the public wants to know the details of his story and gets off on withholding that information.
