I think it's an early Mazda3 sedan.

Cars are a bit overpowered these days, my crapbox 2008 yaris could top 100 with enough runway and it had a modest 1 liter engine. Not that you should, it got super floaty that fast and didn't want to keep going in a straight line, but that's plenty of speed to shishkebab yourself.

I actually had a 2004 Mazda 3 sedan, and while I wouldn’t have called it super fast (NA 160hp I4) it could definitely move. I’m surprised it could have gone fast enough to do that, however.

Looks like a 1st gen Mazda 3 sedan.

Also yeah, how fast would they have been going to accomplish this level of destruction?

I half expected one of the photos to show the driver sitting unharmed on an intact seat, stuck against the start of the barrier, 400m behind the wreckage with a Wiley Coyote look on his face.

Part of that removal process could be why the only photos are from the passenger side of the wreckage. I'm guessing there may be more than just skid-marks from the mangled car on the other side of that wall... :gibs:

Just a heads up that rental coverage only applies if you put in a claim, and a pothole hit is usually an at fault collision loss. Deductible applies.

Probably more cost effective to repair it out of pocket.

Guess who got hit by a garbage truck recently.... made a claim on roadside to get the car towed home... and took out a rental claim? :sigh:

Also, my insurance is up for renewal. I'm getting horrific quotes for state minimum liability alone when I call around (1.5-10x what I was paying for full coverage - yes, 10x), my own insurance is quoting me an equally terrifying amount, and it now looks like I made 3 claims in one day (even though I cancelled the tow and wound up limping it home). :fuckoff: Since the liability claim is still open (since lawyers), there's no telling what's gonna eventually happen.

That’s a possibility, or maybe a fuse. The press office said they’d let me know. Shame, as it was a pretty good car up to that point.

See the patches of yellow on the detached car chunk where that seatbelt attaches? I think that's foam from the seat cushions.

Yep. Didn’t help. Even letting it sit overnight didn’t solve the problem. It happened on Sunday and was going back on Monday anyway, so not too inconvenient, although I feel bad for a neighbor I’d promised to give a ride to.

Well...the good news is most insurance companies only consider one incident per calendar day as chargeable, as in it would impact your rate. This is because if you got into an accident and got 3 tickets, you’d get a massive whammie if they charged everything.

Texas rates have gone up pretty hard in the last 6-12 months. An independent agent may be your best bet to find one of the smaller carriers with a competitive rate.

THE GODDAMNED SPRING POPPED OUT.

It wedged itself around the shock but appeared to be fully intact. We have roadside and since I don't own a spring compressor and didn't want to gently caress with it we had it towed. And since we learned our lesson when my car was vandalized we carry good rental coverage as well.

So a part of the spring perch popped out and is missing. But the place we use for all her work is being great, they ordered the part and are not charging us for the labor. The manager is slightly concerned that one of his techs might have hosed up the car before he quit so they're covering their butts. And my wife's step mom lent us her CRV so we didn't have to shell out for the rental. Working out so far.

I mean, it's colossally* stupid, but there's something so hideously anti-ingenious about it that I have to say wrong thread. Dude tows an engine, wasting tons of power so that he can get back that power through an ICE backup that will happily power him off the road in a corner. It's beautiful.

So by having a complete extra engine pushing the car whilst braking to recharge the motor he can get 200 miles more out of it?

Assuming the tank capacity is right and the mpg stats are right he'd be better off by 272 miles if he just put the gas straight into the Prius. What an incredible moron.

*edit: it ain't a Prius. Still though.

It's been done before, long ago, with a different EV and a different VW motor as the pusher. This guy at least has some better reasoning to the setup.. guy above thinks he's getting free mileage pushing against the brakes.

quote:

Electric vehicles are great for around-town driving. Clean, quiet, and up to the task of keeping up with urban traffic. Longer trips can be difficult. What's needed is a way to convert the EV into a hybrid for longer distances. Enter the EV pusher trailer, which allows me to have an internal combustion engine to drive the EV forward longer distances when needed, but is detachable for around town use when I want to drive as a pure electric vehicle.
