Since it's not out 'till September, it shouldn't be too much trouble to stick back a few bucks for the conversions. I love the changes, some of them are ones I've been doing anyway in my RPG (we kinda adapted X-Wing to EotE) like red actions, bullseye arcs, and mobile turrets instead of 360, so now it'll be even easier to transition between the RPG and X-Wing play.

I'll probably skip out on Rebels for a while again, as I don't have very much of the plastic at all, and much of what I do have is Resistance anyway. Doing just one faction is a lot more viable though this time round, as they seem to be following the LEgion/Runewars model and not releasing upgrades usable by all factions in only one faction's kits.

I really like how they're handling the conversion kits. Here are some thoughts why. Some people bought into X-Wing wide, buying a single copy of most new releases across all factions. Some people bought into x-wing deep into a faction (there are some local players I know who are exclusive to a single faction, and many many more who are nearly exclusive to a faction). In the old days, it really sucked to have to buy a Starviper to get Autothrusters or a Kihraxz to get Crack Shot. I've bought one of every release thus far (except the upsilon and rebel tie), and I've bought extra copies of just a few ships. Like, less than 5 duplicates. So, for me, one copy of each conversion pack is going to get almost all of my collection playable. I think I'll be short only one TIE Defender and an X-Wing. Remember, you will need a new 2.0 damage deck and will get two tie fighters and an x-wing in the new core set. If you bought deep into a faction, with 2 or more of almost every ship, you'll need extra conversion kits to make them all day 1 playable. But I expect you'll want to re-buy the new releases as they get released anyway, because there will be new upgrades. But now is the best time to convert to playing a single faction, especially since you don't need to buy cross-faction for upgrades. Really, I think this was handled in the best way possible.

Real talk No backwards compatibility would be the worst possible option for the viability of the game. Any kind of backwards compatibility has a cost associated with it. They could have parted out the upgrade kits one ship at a time. Which would be a huge forecasting and logistical nightmare for both FFG and game stores. So they did the thing of a big upgrade per faction. With enough stuff to cover most players. More stuff would have just driven up the price per box. It’s incredibly reasonable and generous.

Upwards of $250 worth of cardboard at retail easy to keep playing with your spaceship dolls. That's a steep re-buy-in for any tabletop game. XXX is covered by one core and one conversion. Most things worth swarming with come with 4 bases in the conversion kit; for TIEs one kit and one core gets you six, which qualifies as a swarm to me. I think a lot of the worrying about price is premature.

I've never ran more than 7 TIEs (6 Academy and Howlrunner) so its not that big a change and I suspect that 6 will be a perfectly adequate swarm in 2.0. It stings that I won't be able to run all my TIEs straight out the box but I have an entirely ridiculous number of TIE fighters.

Hell, one core, one TIE expansion, one conversion gets you to 7, which is the sane version of a TIE Swarm.

This allows them to sell reprints and 1.0 stuff until it's rereleased in 2.0. It's not like on September 13 all the 1.0 expansions are worthless, things like the ARC-170 is still worth buying because it hasn't been rereleased yet.

Of course, with the new core set I'd have 8 to that would be 9. I really got into TIE Fighters early on. With the new app and a casual group it doesn't matter one jot, mind.

Between Saw's Rebels, new Core, Conversion Kit, and an Expansion I'll end up with four new X-wings. I suppose that'll have to do for now.

Organised Play is a pure marketing tool, taking the marketing aspect out of it is flat out not gonna happen. How would that take the marketing aspect out? You still need to buy the ships in the first place. Nobody buys this game because of the sweet upgrade card art. I've literally never seen any judge or TO walk around to make sure cards were legit and not xeroxed copies so they couldnt care too much about it. Plus they just increased to the size of every upgrade to regular card size. So if you thought some stores had space issues before..... Good luck finding space for that 10 upgrade Myranda or whatever the 2.0 equivalent is.

Jesus you'd think the sky was falling on the FFG facebook. How many of those people (or people here, even) actually use all three factions? Three hundred people panicking about paying $150 for all their precious plastic spaceships when they spent three times that for them in the first place and only ever used six or eight. I have literally never used an Imperial ship that wasn't a Defender, Interceptor, or Bomber. I'm not sad at all to not have to buy them anymore going forward, and you'd think FFG had killed someone's first born.

Seriously, it's ridiculous. Ya, I intend to go full Galactic Empire with my alternate faction being Rebel Alliance. While I loved the idea of playing as Bounty Hunters and less savory fellows, I'd rather just stick with the two groups I'm most fond of. If later that means I get to extend into First Order and Resistance then I'll cross that bridge once FFG fill out those factions as well.
