During the week I use a folding bike in LA. I get there via Amtrak and the Red Line Subway. Folding bikes (the good ones) are really awesome as commuting solutions because they work well with mass transit since normal bikes can be an issue. Also, I take it to restaurants and my office, no need to lock it up. Relevant video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lh4yStWFNvs

But again, it requires they install it as well. So if the other person already uses WA predominantly I'm like okay fine. actionjackson fucked around with this message at 01:20 on May 1, 2018 |

But yeah, usefulness of an app is going to depend on what the people you talk to use. If they all use FB and Whatsapp, you don't have much choice.

Okay, thanks for all the info. I do remember trying signal once because my dad insisted I use it to message him, but I'm like... I'm not going to install an app just for one person haha. It's kind of weird unless everyone you want to message uses signal. actually, if I message everyone using signal, will they just get the (unencrypted) messages through their normal SMS app if they don't have signal installed?

Since banks in Japan still haven't caught on to the whole debit card thing, LINE moved in and now has a mobile payment platform and will issue you a debit card that you can use in store/online and reload using a linked bank account or by depositing cash onto it from 7-11 ATMs. It's real handy.

I guess, but it's a different situation than like phones in Africa. In african countries it's some "there was no infrastructure so when someone came and set it up they could set everything up with the new good stuff", where in china they really are an actually advanced country setting up a lot of their own stuff their own way and some of it is just better. (and some isn't)

Guys withak was being clearly sarcastic. Like, I know people think the only way to read irony is by tone of voice and therefore impossible on the internet. But when you essentially state the problems with a position as part of a sentence framed as "supporting" it, that's sarcasm.

I highly recommend Barbara Martin's Elixir: The American Tragedy of a Deadly Drug which covers not just how the original dumbass decision was made, but the genuinely heroic efforts made by federal officials to track down all the Elixir Sulfanilamide remaining in the public, including bottles left on graves, a traditional Southern Black custom.
