Its just these two dudes coming from a primarily hip-hop background, listening to songs suggested by their fans and they get a lot of metal in.

I saw Body Count in '92 on a small club tour after they had toured Lollapalooza the previous summer. I don't think their S/T album was released yet, so it was before all the Cop Killer attention they got. In the venue, there was a small hallway that connected to the dressing rooms to the stage that most of the artists that had played there autographed. Ice T drew a large penis on the wall and wrote, THIS IS MY MUTHA gently caress'IN EVIL DICK. Classic Ice T.

Plus he got wind of what a mosh pit is. They don't do that at rap concerts so he had to adapt. Good call.

Anyone from that era that made music that hard and survived to this decade is one of two things: they ingested so much booze and drugs they pickled themselves so they spend 40 years looking dead but not actually dying, or you're such a persistent badass death is afraid to come after you.

I saw body count at that first lollapalooza and thought it was the worst of both worlds. No idea what they’ve done since then.

Rhyme Pays is still cool though, Power a little less so.

Their latest 2 albums slap nuts. I don't really care for much of the rest of their work other than the debut.

I'm gonna see Church of Misery and Eyehategod this weekend, plus potentially a zillion other bands. Here's the line-up of the thing I'm going to:

Are there any other bands here that are must-see? Please don't say "Monster Magnet" at me. Also, you can assume that I've heard High on Fire and don't care very much for them. Also also, I'm deliberately posting this here instead of the other thread because those guys probably like everything on account of they're so goddamn high all the time!!

I had my eyes on those two as well. Elder will be easy since they're on before Graveyard, which my friend really wants to see (:chloe:). I should probably stop googling bands though because I just did so for Church of the Cosmic Skull and :yikes:

must sees:

high on fire, stoner motorhead, they're much faster than anything else on that bill
weedater & eyehategod, classic southern punk sludge
nebula, one of the best stoner ROCK bands. they're like a slacker version of 60s acid rock, very good band.
jex thoth, i especially like their second album. it's got an almost neofolk feel here and there. live they play slow & low though, hippie doom metal. great vocalist.

maybe sees:
horisont, it's nothign new under the sun but their latest was just a hugely fun 70s AOR.
graveyard, same as above but a lot less fun. i do really like their first album, tho
church of misery, tatsu has a new band and i hear it's a good one! it's all new guys tho, so i can't say they'll be good for certain.

the rest are either generic or i've never heard of and are probably just more of the same

Definitely see Weedeater. I saw them in a tiny venue and it was one of the best metal shows ive been to.

I also got to talk to their guitarist and he was really surprised that I wanted to take a picture with him. I think people focus on Dixie a lot (I don't blame them bc hes the man) but everyone in Weedeater is just loving awesome not to mention insane.
