Why even bother with the TE position if he can't block? Why not just field an extra WR, or a pass catching RB?

What on earth is the point? Is there a contract reason they need to hold Hack until June 1st or whatever?

Because when people say 'can't block' they mean, occasionally blocks badly. You still need a big dude who can shove a guy on most plays even if they can't sustain that block or move onto a 2nd level block effectively. Like with that Gates video I posted earlier, on an inside run, a big body can move in and occupy a linebacker whereas if you tried to send a scatback or slot receiver into that hole, they're far more likely to just be run over.

I miss when Kleinsasser would catch a pass like twice a season.

I just remembered Corey Schlesinger who would break a facemask seemingly every game.

It looks like he has headaches and memory issues but isn't debilitating like what happened to Junior Seau.

I just presume there's some weird thing in Hack's contract that means they have to hold onto him for salary reasons until like June 1st or whatever.

He's gotta be up there on a list of the biggest dudes to catch like at least 100 passes in the league.

.... Well drat, no he isn't

The Broncos used to have a guy named Dwayne Carsell who was 6'3, 290 who caught near 200 passes in the 90's - early 2000's.

I can't find the gif of Vick missing a wiiiiiiiiiiide open Crumpler, but basically it was because of the Mike Vick experience. Crump coulda/shoulda done more but Vick A) wasn't accurate B) ran a ton and C) couldn't make progressions.

He blew up a couple of running plays which the arrowheadpride gif guy could surely show you, but yeah. He can't cover anything in the passing game anymore which was a bunch of his value, and in the run game it's all guile and no actual ability anymore. Can't shed blockers, can't chase anyone down if he doesn't know where they're going already.

I love DJ but I wish he just became a coach, which he apparently wants to do and Andy would have found a spot for him.

Toilet Rascal
Outside of Jimmy Graham and maybe Luke Willson, Seattle always gets blocking TEs. The three TEs they have on the roster now are arguably all blocking specialists. Before that they've used Zach Miller and John Carlson as blocking TEs.

It looks like there was a mixup with one of the 2006 season box scores that classified Ward as a TE, we'll take a look at that and probably make the fix so he doesn't appear on that Play Index query in the future. Thanks for the heads up.
