Well poo poo, here I am about to pick up a bunch of assault marines as part of a larger deal and wondering what to do with them since I can only ever see myself running vanguard vets instead of them.... At least they'd look sick on my shelf if nothing else.

New models would be neat to see. Don't think Tau will be getting any soon though. Maybe auxiliaries if we are lucky.

We're in a weird position right now because 40k codex releases have been completely decoupled from model releases, since they've decided to push the books out asap for 8th. In terms of models since June 17 we've had extensive new ranges for Primaris, Death Guard and Custodes. Other than that it's thin on the ground - the new plastic Cryptek for Necrons and the Knight Armigers are it, besides unique LTs and upgrade sprues for the Angels Chapters. We should see new Knights with that book, probably something interesting with Kill Team, and then it remains to be seen what comes next.

Sorry for bringing up something that is over a decade old and "comes up like every three months as if it's some sort of new breakthrough". I haven't played in a decade and wanted to know if it had been debunked. Thanks for your responses.

I get that it would be preferable to draw dice from more sources. I wouldn't describe drawing four different large lots of dice from two manufacturers "garbage". Especially since the dice from both manufacturers had the same problem. The chances that both GW and Chessex experienced a transient issue which caused them to make dice in multiple lots that roll excess ones seem low.

As to not replicating a rolling motion, I could see that if they started all of the dice on the same number or something - although even then, the huge number of trials shows that the dice were rolling over.

If this is the extent of the debunking, thanks for letting me know. I think I'll order some numeral dice.

I managed to get ahold of the old Apocalypse cube with like 128 dice that had the Ministorium symbol on either the 1 or 6. Admittedly been a while since I used them for anything so I just have the stored away in a box with the rest of my dice.

I think they had a skull on a 1 and a cog on the 6 for maximum fun.

Casino dice also chip their edges very easily if you aren't rolling them on a soft, controlled surface - like say, a craps table.

Or if you are picking up a handful and shaking them together.

I like using a small number of them though, not necessarily because they are better, but because they are big and cool. I like using casino dice for the meltas in my mixed weapon squads, because it makes them stand out.

But anything where you're rolling more than 5 dice at a time? gently caress that.

Empirically I don't feel like I roll a particularly high number of 1's with my Chessex dice. If anything they seem to be weighted toward 5's and 6's, but only when making Feel No Pain rolls for some reason.

The GW app is fine and if you're rolling 50+ dice I can certainly see a use for it but taking the physical dice away from what is fundamentally a dice rolling game feels pretty weird.

Well since GW has decided they want to accept that we're no longer in the '80s and that the internet is a thing they could do some really insane, whacky poo poo like releasing models independent of codexes and letting people download the rules for them. I mean I know it makes me a god drat madman and all but accepting that they can do FAQs and rules/points changes outside of new editions leaves the possibility of growth.

I'm almost certain at least one of those sample sizes is lacking. I'm also absolutely certain that even if they were even halfway rigorous about it that their sample size was not wide, it was just "let's get a thousand of whatever dice we have on hand" which is not representative in the loving slightest.

The best way to see if dice are balanced is to make some super salty water (just enough that the dice barely float) and keep spinning the dice in the water and see if they consistently float to the same side.

I did it with my X-wing dice since they're notorious for being imbalanced and used the best ones.

As for dice rolling apps. You can let my dice from my dead hands. There's something cathartic about rolling 100+ dice when a boyz mob gets stuck in real good.

There is some value in keeping unit releases altogether in one book, since it allows you to balance them all against each other at once, compared to trying to eyeball balance per-model as they come out.

To be honest, I post about people going overboard with the anti-sex characteristics specifically because I was also a lot like that, and it only was after talking with girl goons, other feminists IRL, and reading up on player statistics that I have the current view on the subject.

"Nothing feminine ever" is just missing the entire reason behind the push for equal representation in nerd hobbies, doubling back towards attitudes that scare away women and feminine men from these sort of hobbies. Stringkini guardsmen Infinity style is fuckawful, but plenty of girl nerds are into badass women in dresses or mild boobplate or robots-that-act-like-people with feminine traits. It's a matter of accomodating everything from commissars in dresses to ladies in identical marine power armor, not exclusively pushing for a No Sex Zone.

Okay. Tyranids. 3 squads of Zoanthropes can do the mortal wound bomb stratagem akin to marines with their Vindicator stratagem. They can deepstrike with another stratagem. Mawlocs can pop off more mortal wounds to units around them when they deepstrike. Maleceptors can pop out more wounds to things around them during the psychic phase.

How viable would 620 points of a list coming down turn 2 and making GBS threads out 8-15 mortal wounds to everything in a localized 6” area be?

What's the post deepstrike move capability? It seems like against an enemy who is planning to deny deep strikes with blocking and zoning the bomb would only get to use that baller ability against maybe 1 screening unit.
