How does mission difficulty scale? Story completion, location, both, neither? Wondering when I should/could stop and smell the roses, having just finished Grave Robber.

Major story milestones increase global difficulty; Grave Robber is one of them and is probably a good time to do some randoms if you feel like doing so. You'll begin encountering a lot of heavies and some assaults.

In the TT game there's a 100 ton 4 legged mech (or at least 80+) that isn't the king krab that I can't remember the name of, but it's IS tech and it basically has a 360d firing arc, gets all the pros of a 4 legger (can lose like two legs and keep limping) and basically just deals death. I think it has 2 guase rifles too. I know that's not in game, I just wanted to sperg a bit.. poo poo I cannot remember what it is called.... It's basically a Landwalker.

A campaign where you only stay in the Leopard, but repair times dramatically scale with mech weight would be interesting. Like if 50 tons was the baseline and then the number of tech points required to do something was scaled based on relative weight. 20 ton mechs would be done in 40% of the time, 100 ton mechs 200%.

I ended up doing pretty much the same tactic as the game went on. Really good for spreading the damage paper thin. It also meshes well with any ace pilot mechs.

Two light Gauss rifles, a whole lot of armour, and some miscellaneous bits of equipment that make it even more resilient. edit: Welp, nevermind

I ran into a impossible to 100% escort mission last night. When the APCs get to the LZ, the pirates spawn two commandos and a hunchback within range of the LZ. First action, one of the commandos slags an APC, completely ignoring Glitch in a centurion ready to back stab him. I guess they really wanted to stop those doctors. I had the hunchback on the ropes hoping to salvage him and after knocking him down, one of the surviving APCs called shots him to the CT and kerblooey. I would have stomped on him if the game would let you.

I feel like every aspect of battletech is cool but hamstrung by lovely 80s art/concepts/game design and could really unlock it's potential popularity if it gets remade with a modern coat of paint

"Is it as heavy as possibly allowed?" Yes. "Does it have ferro fiberous armor?" Yes. "Does it have whatever those fast-running fiber ligaments are installed that you should never use but always do?" Yes. "Can all of it's weapons rotate to fire in any arc?" Yes. "Can it go prone easily?" Yes. "Does it have x2 heat sinks?" What do you think? Basically I'm surprised the thing doesn't have goku pants and wasn't issued by default to all starting recruits. The thing is stupid retarded dumb. I found it playing MegaMek against some people a long, long time ago and took out an entire lance and they were like "ok, stop"

Lord Koth posted:The more amusing thing about the Thunderbolt is that the artists apparently can't decide which shoulder it mounts the missile pod on. Some of its art, including the original, has it on the left making the similarity to the Summoner even more blatant. IIRC the Steiner variant shifts the missile pod over to the other side.

Max armour and heat sinks as available. This thing carried me through most of the game after I got it, trading it out for a king crab only in the last mission. I had a jump jet variant as well, with 2 less ML and a bit worse on heat I believe. Breaching shot, and bulwark were my pilot skills, eventually with high tac for called shot mastery. Abuse that aimed shot with the ac20 to cut guarded enemies in half, or just alpha unprotected mechs. Orcs and Ostriches fucked around with this message at 16:28 on May 5, 2018 |

Get an expert pilot and put them in an orion-k with max armor (you have to sacrifice some rear armor but w/e), max jumpjets, AC20, two SRM6s. Jump and fire the AC20 until you're in their face. If you can't reach for a punch, unload the SRMs until you can. If you can get two of these? You'd have to make a big mistake to lose either.
