It really is impressive on that front, yeah.

For a game that's got a several-tens-of-millions USD budget, it's breathtakingly bad. Hopefully, when someone comes round to do the tell-all expose on Star Citizen's dramatic failure, they'll spare a chapter for this one.

I wonder where the money went? Like, for real - where did it go? Not art assets, not sound, not animations. Not network coding, not security, not bug fixing. Not gameplay design. Not marketing. I mean, with Star Citizen, we know the money is going right to Chris Robberts and his creepy pornwife's "movie script", along with a whole lot of development. Mind you, the development isn't getting anywhere because what he's trying to do is stupid, but there's a lot of code being written. What about this game?

So we beat on, subs against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

Wait so is Star Citizen officially dead or are there still people clinging to it?

That was always doomed to failure, but I'm genuinely sad that the new Ultima sucks and I was always holding out hope. (I did not put down any money, however.)

Verbose posted:

It depends on your definition of "dead" (insert Princess Bride quote here) but I think that nowadays, 99% of people acknowledge that Star Citizen will never see release.

And, yeah, I'm kinda sad that Shroud of the Avatar is a flop which will probably kill Lord British's career. He really did put out some groundbreaking stuff back in the 80's and 90's.

(of course, you can say the same about Chris Roberts...)

I'm not really saying anything that someone else hasn't already said, but I hopped on for the free trial and had to share my thoughts.

It's not just that the game looks cutting edge for 2006, it's that the game is completely bereft of any kind of charm that might allow one to overlook the severely limited graphics and gameplay.

FUCK THE ISLE OF APPLES. FUCK THEM IN THEIR STUPID ASSES.
unironically, the best part of this game has been watching the clueless old people try to convince potential new customers that there's some paid-shill conspiracy going on trying to "ruin" this game's reputation. Starr Long is literally going to other forums talking about this mess and providing dire warnings about organized trolls:

quote:

...instead of fixing those problems, the devs decided to try and play victim and blame the backers calling them "An organized group of trolls trying to hurt their game". When the reality is they love to spin and play victim instead admitting they are the problem... I will post their video that speaks volumes...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOg3AJXGKgQ

Now, Garriott himself has also gotten in on the "it's a paid troll conspiracy!!!!!!!!11" bandwagon:

I mean, ha ha, as if we're all getting paid by Activizzard! What a joke! Right, guys? Like there's some kind of shadowy cabal working behind the scenes to injure this poor, wonderful project.

It would be bigger than WoW if only we organized trolls would stop our campaign!

Which totally doesn't exist, ha!

Once Anthem fails and they strip what's left of Bioware to the bone maybe the last few devs standing can get the project.

Won't need more than a small team if they stick to isometric.
