It's the time of year when the swallows come back from Africa, which is always lovely, but yesterday was sort of special; I was sitting outside in the sunshine when suddenly a huge burst of swallow twittering broke out just beside me, it was just so loud and joyful I went over to see what was happening. Just as I got to where it was loudest, I saw a pair of swallows zooming out from the shed they've been nesting in for the last two years, still singing together. I think maybe they are just really happy to be back

Beep, beep Birbs are awesome. AAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaa bokbok This one is technically NWS but there's no humans or actual genitals in it so use your own judgement. It makes me giggle every time I look at it because that cockatiel looks so jazzed. https://i.imgur.com/fDInKFe.jpg

Anyone know what this guy is, seen in Vermont? He should be an eastern bluebird but doesn't look like any of the pics I can see. (Is there an actual bird watchers thread around somewhere?) edit: Indigo Bunting maybe?

snergle posted:why does she stick the peices of paper in her feathers? Also it looks like she is making specific shapes to stick in her feathers. It is for carrying nesting materials. But you shouldn't let them do it unless you intend to breed them, because it makes them mean and broody. Once the female gets broody she will keep laying eggs whether she has a mate or not. So it's another one of those things that is both cute and indicates the human involved is a moron.
