I've only used something awful for one thread a friend recommended; a couple of years ago. Came from Reddit. I'd appreciate some tips. Know a little bit about goons (?) Edit: how do notifications work here, can you mention someone in post? Darth blob fucked around with this message at 18:27 on May 5, 2018 |

there are a lot of boards where either the administrator or even individual users can choose whether the content is seen in chronological view (like SA) or threaded view (like reddit). but that option is not available here for some reason

So whose fault is it that you have to click the tiny "nn comments" link to actually read the thread, rather than get taken off to imgur or twitter or whatever news site? That's some straight garbage.

Dudes, what is this thing from the beginning of the SNES game, Illusion of Gaia? This is along a series of obvious mysterious real world whatevers but this one I can't figure out. Is it Stonehenge? A really awkward angle of the Arch de Triumphe?

The construct of three large stones, with the top one making a roof over desperate wall stones, is called a trilithon. It's common all over very ancient sites, Stonehenge's is just more widely known as it has some of the largest remaining examples.

Well, this is a game that was made for, I think, Japanese/American kids or young adults. The rest of the images are of things I can recognize (the Sphinx, Ankor Wat, Moai statues, and what is later in the game to be revealed as the Tower of Babel) but this one is so awkward. I should think that this would be an image recognizable by most people in the 90s. And the other ones are so specific.

Sometimes mice get paralysed in fear or get little heart attacks if they get chased too much. Or play dead. Usually when I release traumatised mice, they just sit there. Takes them a bit to skitter off.

Doorknob guy that mouse will most likely find its way back in - they can follow they own stank for like half a mile. Next time you might want to release it farther away! Just my advice as someone who has done this a lot. I release mine across the river from here, try following your smell across a half a mile long bridge bithc!! There are plenty of nice not lethal traps you can make yourself that are easier than tupperware hunting but nicely done

Detail guys can work magic with existing paint, you might throw $250 at one of them and see what they can do. If that's not satisfactory, ask that guy's advice on how to approach a repaint. The guy at the auto body shop can also help, although he is way more inclined to talk you into the $10,000 paint job than the $250 paint job.

If you know how the mouse got in, seal it up or more mice will get in the same way; there's probably a bunch of them living nearby. If you don't know how the mouse got in you're basically going to have to have traps out all the time until you figure it out and seal it up. If your cat does manage to kill a mouse inside your house it will leave blood and guts all over your floor. You really want to find out how they're getting in and put a stop to it.

In my experience making a big effort to put all food in mouse proof containers helps kill their motivation to move in in the first place, too

Oh this isn't going for sale, I managed to get the car I've always wanted growing up. I don't think detailing will work out, when I say clearcoat failure I mean My car needs lotion

Speaking of which, is there any truth to the notion that putting a spider outside is basically condemning it to a horrible death, since an "indoor" species of spider isn't adapted to live out there? It's certainly true that the spiders I see outside look completely different from the ones I see inside.

Earwicker posted:pretty sure all of the spider species that live in people's houses also already existed just fine in nature before humans were building houses. its not like they are domesticated animals Not really how these things work. For instance, there was an archaeological study of the populations of two species of mice in Mesopotamia. When people started building homes in the area, the population of one species skyrocketed and the other plummeted. When the homes were uninhabited for long periods because the people were seminomadic, the reverse happened. It’s easy to imagine that we live in a state of artificial equilibrium with all sorts of creatures where they’re ideally suited to human buildings while only occupying a narrow niche in nature, so if the buildings went away the house spider species probably wouldn’t go extinct, but that particular spider you throw out probably wouldn’t have been born or be able to survive without your home.
