I give you cheesecake pizza. It had a sweet-ish cream sauce and I think the corn was maybe creamed corn? It was sweeter than normal corn. The cheesecake was literally just a hunk of cheesecake. Would not do again probably

My doctor started getting worried I’d crack my head open because when I’d faint I wouldn’t go down slowly. So I started going in for tests, and then it was then suspected I had a brain tumour and that it wasn’t related to diet, but nothing showed up in scans. All these specialists were scratching their heads and then just wouldn’t follow up after a couple of inconclusions (hi OHIP), and a couple of YEARS go by until my GP suggested I eat a steak as a joke and it was like this miraculous cure. I went from looking and acting like a dead person to a living one after a single meal. I start eating red meat again and after more tests it’s like I never had a problem. I can’t go more than three or four days without a good portion of red meat or I start to disappear. I can feel it coming, too. Woozy, forgetful, clumsy, can’t get my words out, losing time...So I’m being dramatic but I really don’t want to fall and smash my head open on the kitchen tile when I’m home alone, so the idea that I could become allergic to red meat scares me because NOTHING else has ever worked.

My mom doesn't absorb iron very much at all and was hospitalized for a while for severe anemia. She almost died. Turns out it's crazy difficult for iron supplements to absorb in her body, but iron in red meat works pretty damned well. Her new doctor told her she pretty much has to eat red meat in addition to taking huge amounts of iron, and only taking the pills like her former doctor told her almost got her killed. She was a vegetarian for a long time and even veggies with iron don't seem to do much. So yeah some people will keep the gently caress over if they don't actually eat the food that supplements come from. E: I mean hey at least I know with 100% certainty that my red meat is healthy and raised well and whatnot. Scathach has a new favorite as of 00:39 on May 8, 2018 |

It's complicated with plant sources of iron because a lot of the ones highest in iron also have stuff that inhibits iron absorption. And apparently vitamin C can help with absorption so eating leafy greens with tomato or other high vit C foods helps
|
# ? May 8, 2018 12:03 |

Taking in vitamin C increases iron absorption, so that's two supplements/very different categories of food to focus on.

Spinach actually (unfortunately) doesn't have much iron: http://www.businessinsider.com/spinach-iron-levels-nutrition-myths-2017-6 I was lacto-ovo from 8-28 and barely remembered eating meat when I started again. Unfortunately, eating meat really mitigates my chronic IBS and I can't bear to stop now.

Unlike kale, which just stabs you a million times on the tongue and you start crying and you have to eat it anyways because guilt (see previous posts). gently caress kale. gently caress it. e: okay, I like kale chips. Kale basically requires you to mask the fact that you're eating kale. I add honey dijon sauce, dried cranberries, and pecans to my kale salad and it's...edible.
