In a frictionless vacuum, sure, but units do matter in the real world. Acre-feet is a weird as gently caress unit of volume, except it's actually useful for things. You've got 30 acres that need 6 inches of water per growing season? 15 acre-feet. Yeah, you can express that as 1.85e+7 liters, but that means more math, more steps, and more chances for error.

Fahrenheit conveys more information more concisely. "How's the weather today?" "In the 70s." vs. "Hmm it's gonna vary from 21.11-26.11 C."

7 hectares that need 150mm water per growing season: 7 * 10000 * 0.15 = 10500 kilolitres.

Seems pretty simple and error free here too, and the water utility can use the same units whether it’s a farm or a brewery or a manufacturing plant or whatever.

I'm ok with this.
As a Canadian I get to experience both at the same time every day.

Feet are better than metres when measuring short distances but metres are better when measuring longer distances.

Fahrenheit is stupid and only the olds use it here. No young person here uses it, because it's pointless stupid.

Pounds to Kgs are common here even though kilogram is a measure of mass while pound is a measure of weight. So it really should be Kgs to slugs and newtons to pounds.

I think the people saying the increased granularity of Fahrenheit is useful are greatly overstating their case.

I don't think I'd ever bother to change my heater by an increment of fewer than 2 degrees Celcius.

Small factors in the environment, like a door being opened or a change in the weather outside, are going to cause greater variances than one degree Fahrenheit.

This has got to be my favorite nonsensical joke about units: that people who use a different system are robotic autists who never use round numbers and write them out to absurd levels of decimal precision, because that's what you get if you convert from your familiar system.

It's so disingenuous and stupid but I love it anyway

I love that there are Americans in this thread who apparently think the rest of the world has no idea what a given temperature in Celsius means just because they don't. They streamlined it years ago, and the official SI and ISQ definition of a megabyte is exactly 10^6 bytes. The official prefixes for iterations of 2^10 are kibi, mebi, gibi, et cetera.
