dumb teacher rant, apologies in advance: in nys, teachers hired after a certain date need professional development hours to keep their license. recently the state changed the req's for professional development. the previous system was coming to the point where it might actually impact people and they replaced it and wiped the slate clean. this meant that years of attending pd meetings and all the associated record keeping on the part of teachers was tossed out the window. they replace it with a system where the meetings and workshops i go to provided by my public school dont count as pd. only meetings hosted by an accredited organization with a special code from the state count as pd and many of these cost money and time outside the workday nobody i know at work is doing much to complete their reqs. we all expect this system to again be changed when the 5 year hours deadline is getting close. its just a really annoying and whoever came up with it should go to prison

I got my 2nd professional certificate just when they put those requirements in place, then I changed sectors like two years later. For a long time they took PD that had literally nothing to do with K-12, which was awesome since my situation was still a bit fluid. I seriously doubt NYSED has enough staff to keep up with it even now. However, this new poo poo - I'm all for keeping current with your knowledge but that is loving bullshit. Let me guess, you need to pay for these "official" workshops? It's all about paying bribes at some level in NY, isn't it?

thats my take, ive seen some ads for free ones but i dont think its possible to get all the hours needed without payingbut its all a joke cause our union guy said the enforcement system was random audit

NKD is doing another round of endorsements on thursday. gounardes said he's endorsed by frank seddio (brooklyn dem party chair) so there's no chance in hell that he's getting endorsed for the 22nd senate district race. we're also doing endorsements for governor, lt. governor (both hochul and jumaane will be attending), and the female district leader for the 51st AD

A long, long time ago I was illegally evicted from a lovely basement. Julia on a total whim came all the way across the city and met with me and took me to the courthouse and helped me out a great deal every step of the way to sticking it to those motherfuckers. She's a hero of New York and the fact that she's running is huge news to me. She's amazing.

Just got back form the meeting. I'm excited about Jumaane Williams and Nixon. Though obviously distrustful of Nixon, but I'll take literally anyone over Cuomo, and there isn't anyone else, so it's not a tough decision. Here is Jumaane's questionaire, he is very genuine, and has been involved in NYC government for a long time. I wish Miner would just get in the race. I guess strategically I should want there to be only one challenger to Cuomo, but at least she has some executive experience, and was also the Democratic Party Co-Chair for a few years. Which is either an advantage or a disadvantage, depending on how you look at it.

good to see you at the NKD meeting, powercrazy. i didn't think nixon was gonna make it there but she did, and she did very well. we ended up endorsing her, Jumaane, and the non-absentee woman running for the 51st AD leader (genesis aquino). also, i had no idea jumaane has tourette's syndrome (his body jerks around every so often) i can also confirm salazar owns. my friend is her campaign manager. NKD probably isn't giving out any more endorsements but since she's got DSA's, she'll be getting plenty of help. i hope the third person in the race drops out, he seems like a dipshit
