Notorious b.s.d. posted:there are hardly any towers in nyc that’s the main PoP for NYC Mesh aka the SuperNode and is on the roof of the Verizon building on Pearl street. They essentially get all the roofspace they want for a few hundred bucks per month. The big expense was that they had to pay people to run fiber from their rack up to the roof, but that’s a one-time cost and it was a 16-strand cable so they’re essentially future-proofed. They also got a gigabit of bandwidth donated to them from some random company, so they had to pay to get the cross link set up.

yes, but also popo means a very specific thing. like, you would have to be absolute goddamned imbeciles to intentionally refer to yourselves with a slang term for slave catchers that is not a term you can "take back"

Outta nowhere but it always makes me laugh how in Snow Crash the Black Sun has "Movie Star Quadrant", "Rock Star Quadrant", "Nipponese Quadrant" and..... "Hacker Quadrant". That book is such a goofy artifact of its time. Like movie stars would want to hang out with a bunch of filthy nerds in their loving VR basement

as i recall in the book they even describe it as a giant marketing business thing, something about "3/4ths of the global population are currently making mud bricks and field-stripping their AK-47s, half of the rest have electricity, maybe a tenth of those own a computer, even smaller percentage are online" and people fight for the eyeballs of the people spending money
