Someone at the Times has a really troubling agenda. More than just typical right wing crap, they REALLY want to push the idea that far right social opinions are not only normal but also persecuted.

Trump's presidency has given a lot of people the feeling that they can finally be open with their real feelings and the New York Times seems to be no different.
So shocking that the editorial staff who let a bunch of Trump voters run their editorial page for a day last year is pushing a right-wing agenda

its not a secret or anything, the Times views itself as the paper of record; the editorial page is supposed to reflect a broad spectrum of views (except those of dirty hippies). It's also not a secret who's driving it; it's privately held by the Sulzbergers.

They're not doing that though. All of their conservative columnists are Never Trump people, which represent maybe 5% of the GOP base, and overall less than 1% of the entirety of American conservativism.

If they really wanted to reflect a broad spectrum of views, they'd have a socialist, and a rabid Trump supporter. But they're terrified of showing their readers (who want to believe that a reasonable, thoughtful conservative movement still exists) the truth of this world, because the truth is their readers are part of the problem.

Just the words don't do it justice you need to see the cool photographs they shot of these guys in badass poses to get the real bullshit.

But yeah you don't need to reward them for it.

What's the full story on those two anyway? Searching for them brings up a bunch of right wing sites which I am not clicking on.

This segment from the article:

NYT posted:

A year ago, Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying were respected tenured professors at Evergreen State College, where their Occupy Wall Street-sympathetic politics were well in tune with the school’s progressive ethos. Today they have left their jobs, lost many of their friends and endangered their reputations.

All this because they opposed a “Day of Absence,” in which white students were asked to leave campus for the day. For questioning a day of racial segregation cloaked in progressivism, the pair was smeared as racist. Following threats, they left town for a time with their children and ultimately resigned their jobs.

“Nobody else reacted. That’s what shocked me,” Mr. Weinstein said. “It told me that a culture that told itself it was radically open-minded was actually a culture cowed by fear.”

seems entirely vague on purpose. I did see on wikipedia that apparently they got half a million in damages which is left out of that article.

Much like the rest of the article, it's incredibly disingenuous:

quote:

Tensions came to a head in mid-April, when someone—we still don’t know who—made public an e-mail from Weinstein to Love. In his message, Weinstein criticized a new spin on Evergreen’s annual “Day of Absence,” an event dating back to the 1970s, in which students, faculty, and staff of color are invited to leave campus to participate in race and equity workshops while white participants attend similar panels on campus. The groups later reunite for a “Day of Presence,” in which all participants discuss how to create a more supportive campus. This year, white students, staff, and faculty were invited to participate in the off-campus event.

In his e-mail, Weinstein wrote that the spin was "a show of force and an act of oppression in and of itself” for asking white students, faculty, and staff to "go away." Love responded to his e-mail by emphasizing that the event was voluntary and invited him to talk further in-person. Love said Weinstein never took her up on the offer.

Despite Weinstein’s criticisms, the “Day of Absence” saw 200 white students, staff, and faculty participate in the off-campus workshops on April 12, said Love. The event was so popular that the organizing committee had to create a waitlist and eventually turn away some eager participants, she said.

The event was not at all a "day of racial segregation," and Weinstein's sensationalism contributed to harassment of students and professors.

So basically white students were given the voluntary option of skipping class as a showing of support for their POC classmates and that is somehow RAHOWA.

I should just set a filter for "free speech" because it is practically a chud signifier at this point.

I talk to moderates all the time, and I even consider myself in a liberal college town bubble, but these college students shutting down speakers is not good PR for the left and turns off a lot of moderates who agree with a lot of the left's ideas.

I agree, college students should be engaged politically, I just don't agree with their tactics. You're essentially telling college students that they should just keep feeding the trolls. I trust you've been around long enough on the Internet to know that you never feed trolls.

Basically the best kind of press we can get is for Richard Spencer types to hold speeches and no one shows up. If it didn't cost 500,000 dollars to do one of those it would be perfect.

The Day of Absence incident is the full story.

The fact that there's not much of an ideological common thread running through most of the people mentioned should be revealing. Harris got his start a while ago, Rogan's show isn't really politically-focused, the rest can be summed up as people who drew the ire of progressive activists for one reason or another and parlayed it into a media career on the Internet.

That phenomenon is probably more important than the specific people involved, and as with Peterson, I suspect the interest in what they have to say is VERY cherry-picked.
