So it was a boring Wednesday so I listened to that stupid TAL episode that trolling rear end in a top hat kept linking. They go to great lengths to contextualize the conservative woman who enlisted herself as a shock troop in the culture war while aggressively decontextualizing her opposition by questioning the specifics of her politics. They do this because they have a disdain for conservative politics that makes them assume it's unserious. They're comfortable questioning the specifics of fascism with the leftist(because they personally understand it), but they do not dare question the specifics of the conservative's politics because they assume the person doesn't really believe it or understand it. It's creepy and weird. Like, yeah, it ends with them concluding conservatives are conspiring to silence left professors, but the route they get there is bizarre and betrays their bias toward civility at all costs. You know, I used to believe in civility -- touted it in this very thread, in fact! -- but the last few months has really driven home that you simply can't be nice to Nazis to stop them from being Nazis. Indeed, I've come to believe that assaulting a Nazi is no assault at all, that it is in fact self-defense, as the very philosophy behind Nazism is violence against all who do not conform to their ideal. I do not exaggerate. Nazis don't have a particular economic plan, they don't have religious dogma, they don't have any basis or belief beyond "white man is best man," which means they fight for nothing of substance. At least Communists believe they can introduce total economic equality, at least religious fanatics believe they are following the will of their god, but the Alt-Right's entire message is "waaah, I'm white." I would not shed a single tear if a load of Nazis were gunned down, and I would laugh long and loud if they were gunned down by one of their own because he believed (((GLOBALISTS!))) had infiltrated his little group.

Its really striking how invested Fox News is in the West Virginia Senate race. I first noticed it when they ran their own Republican Primary last week and I was like "I've never seen that on a cable news network before." But ever since then I've been hyper aware of how often they bring it up and showcase the race even when not discussing any others. Its not really a surprise in the idea of it. Like I get what they're doing. But it is kind of unexpected how hard Fox News is working to get Joe Manchin out of the Senate. Its like mcmagic is producing over there.
