ty all. lots of good recommendations and i will endeavor towards the lofty goal of actually starting a single one of them at some point. my post's time in the sun seems be over but if anyone throws anything else out ill also add i like a good conclusive romance sub-plot and nothing too long

legend of the legendary heroes is a decent fantasy anime but they went with an anime original ending that didnt resolve all the threads so they could have a season 2 later, and, well, they dindt have a season 2 later

Admittedly it's my favorite anime and a recent rewatch only confirms this for me.

Any Manga like Goblin Slayer but without all the graphic rape going on? I don't mind dark fantasy but don't really need to see characters get raped every few chapters.

You want Dorohedoro. It's not fantasy in the stereotypical sense, in fact it's got a style that I honestly can't really put a finger on any other work of fiction having. It's got a sorta punk-ey feel to it, but the way magic and everything works in it is so loving surreal and unique(magic users flying not on broomsticks but a cross between a vacuum cleaner and a hot rod is one weird one). It's also got some really loving awesome women in it, especially Nikaido and Noi. Noi in particular is a brick shithouse brawler and one of the rare instances of a female fighter character with proper muscles. Also her relationship with Shin is very cute. Well, as cute as a couple of cleaners can be.

berserk has rape but it also has it actually be a part of its character writing and not just, a thing that happens constantly for the sake of it

Yeah but the horse dude gets brutally murdered before he can actually do any rapey things iirc. Berserk is pretty hosed up.

Dorohedoro is extremely good but it gets convoluted as poo poo at the end and the art style doesn't help trying to decipher what the gently caress is going on a lot of the time. I would have preferred if it just stayed as hosed up and nasty yet weirdly upbeat, rather than going into full crazy surreal anything-can-happen town. But yeah it does have exactly 0 rapes in as far as I recall which is a plus.

I just want to say that if you want to experience a LOT of feelings and cry like a small child at least once per episode, then goddamn is Violet Evergarden the show for you.

what are the best/good "animes that take place in a fantasy setting with game-like rules" (both a little broader and a little narrower than isekai, i guess???) off the top of my head i can think of re:zero, konosuba, grimgar, and overlord. i got a bit of an itch to rewatch re:zero and then i thought "what if i just watched a new anime instead" so i'm here now

It was alright, it suffered for having to reshow parts of S1 and the conclusion wasn't super interesting but I enjoyed Ais' story and the focus on Loki family hijinks It's getting a new mainline season and movie at some point, looking forward to those
