Not particularly. Specific weapons may have special quirks here or there, but otherwise "strongest weapon available" is usually your best choice.

Celes can only use Runic with certain types of weapons, and some of Locke's weapons deal full damage from the back row. For the most part you just use what hits hardest. At high level/hp that'll be the Atma Weapon.

Holy poo poo I just got to Ice Cavern in FF1 and Dark Wizards are some bullshit. Their Fire 3 (in ice cavern lol) deals about 150 damage, when 3/4 of my characters only have around 350 max hp. Then they cast poison, which instantly kills???? Running into even a single one is almost always a death sentence, more than once I've had a poison insta-kill my entire party, before my characters could act to try to silence / kill it. Every other enemy in the dungeon I can kill no problem, but then a dark wizard shows up and fucks my day up.

I finished FF2. That poo poo with the Emperor taking over Hell was bonkers and I love it.

Encounter rate was a bit ridiculous by the end though.

Particularly, give Locke Atma Weapon and Valient Knife. His defense is poo poo so at lower hp he does high damage with valient knife. If he’s full health he’ll do full damage with Atma.

Emperor is a lot more annoying in NT, since he actually has something resembling a projectile game now. In the PSP games his thing was just 'lay lots of traps and wait for opponent to fall into them while dodging/blocking everything they throw at you'.

I wrote the OP for the NT thread so I could probably answer other questions you have, although I'm definitely more familiar with some characters than others.

Types don't matter nearly as much as specific weapon abilities and stat boosts with three exceptions-

- Flails, Cards/Darts, and Boomerangs do full damage from the back row. Most of the Flail characters USUALLY got something better to be holding but Locke can abuse Boomerangs to pretty good effect in the mid-World of Balance.
- Spears do extra damage with Jump or the Paldior/Quetzalli Summon, per usual with Final Fantasy games. They're the only real weapon options for Mog anyways, but something to keep in mind for Edgar.
- Dice ignore any form of damage modifier besides Level and do damage based on the number rolled. The first dice are ok for the point in the game you can get them, but the Loaded Dice are basically an endgame nuke in Setzer's hands with the Offering.

Boomerangs also have a hidden damage range cap, so if you keep one on Locke and pump his Strength with Espers, he'll peak in the low 2000s. If you suddenly switch him to a non-ranged weapon at 128 Str, he'll do 9999s like normal :eng101:

I'm not being backhanded either, all companies make dumb mistakes, and that SE is always willing to fix poo poo constantly shows they give a drat about the people buying their games.

ix's font probably existed as a spritesheet called with a text parser

turning it into an actual font that a computer can read, decode, and display is probably way harder than just using an open source arial ttf

e: not "probably," making fonts is absolutely 100% a nightmare and i've been in those trenches and part of me died there, which is why my in-game fonts exist as spritesheets called with text parsers :v:

Yes, that's a touchscreen UI on PC. Also notice the garbage graphics filter they used.

Bongo Bill
Jan 17, 2012

The filter is not a screen filter, by the way. They filtered each individual sprite graphic, or possibly the texture files. So in addition to being a blurry mess where UI elements didn't have matching resolution, there were visible tiling seams all over the place.

But...it’s not? I’m not saying they’re bad companies, just that they’ve all made plenty of bad mistakes. Pretty much all companies make mistakes, they’re run by human beings and nobody’s perfect.

I think SE excels at fixing their poo poo because they care enough not to want to associate their brand with garbage games, even though they released (insert your favorite FF here). The FF14 ordeal still impresses me in just how much they rebounded from a massive failure, but then they’ve done that before with The Spirits Within and had to do it again with FF15.

Now, learning from those mistakes is another thing entirely...

EA too but their the devil so they cant ever die.

Id like to think SE has at least learned something about writing sequels, since that awful sequelitis phase during the mid-late 2000's was some pretty asinine and horrid poo poo. Not all their sequels were godawful but most of them were.
